Once again in a random turn of events i sat after Donington on Monday having had a blast i decided it was time to move on the KTM 690 Duke. Sure, it was great, it was fun and it was epic... but there's loads of bikes and loads of options to try.

The clear and obvious answer was "KTM 790" but you know what, we've been there, we've done that one, read the book, bought it, sold it and painted the world KTM orange....

So i sat and weighed up all the requirements. They were a short list to me.
1. Cool looking naked
2. 100bhp
3. Electronic toys

Several times in the past few years i've looked at these, almost considered them, then gone away from them, then back to them, then bought a KTM... so why the heck not.

I think it ticks all of my boxes and wants... (apart from being orange of course) and i'm excited about it.

Deposit paid to dealer this evening, not sure yet when the deal will complete but i'd expect early next week.

Is that the 900 or the 700?
If I still have a job come autumn I have a big birthday and some money to spend. Bike liscence might be on the cards - Weeksy you have been one of the driving forces to this line of thought.

That's the 900. I had the original MT09 and got rid due the on/off fuelling. Only bike I've ever had that was continually trying to kill me.

That looks really good and the styling is a nice nod back to old Yams.
TBH I never liked any of the KTMs,I know they are excellent bikes and some of my mates rave about them, but they were just too orange and sharp angles for me.
May need to do some work on the gaurd tail light area mind 😉

First day of ownership here.

Well consider my flabber well and truly gasted... i mean really really.

This is likely to come out like one of them bitter ex-girlfriend stories where all your mates say "We told you she was a bitch and you should have dumped her years ago, you just didn't listen", if you don't fancy reading a gushing report on the XSR900, then you may as well click off this thread now and save yourself 3 mins of reading.

I got to collect it earlier than i expected, trailered it home and jumped on it.

Once again as with the test ride, it just blew me away, everything it does/did is exceptional, i'm hitting corners 10mph quicker, corners where i'd have usually backed off the throttle i'm just holding it and getting round with ease, stability in all corners, all circumstances, it's just epic.

Then you open the throttle and are met with a 'brraaaaaap' noise and it sounds that good, you just want more of it, more more more !!!! noise !!

Down the gearbox the changes are effortless and it's one of them bikes where blipping the throttle requires no thought at all, it's an easy transition to do so, some bikes i have issues with that i must admit.

The QS hasn't arrived yet so isn't fitted, but i expect it to be on by lunchtime tomorrow for a test. The Nitron shock, well, i'm in a bit of a debate there, this thing handles LOVELY... really nice, does it really need a shock ? ?? MMMM i'm not so convinced. I have no idea how fast some of these people who complain about the handling actually go, but i may give Paul Bird a shout next time as they must be BSB levels of speed !!!!

Brakes, i guess if we're being picky they're not as sharp as the 690s, but that was running Brembo SA pads and a notoriously sharp bike on the brakes, so i'm OK with that, if i need to i'll throw some pads in the XSR and i'm sure it will be superb.

I'm not even sure what else to say... I'm a little in shock here with it.. wow.

Can you please give it the LC make over.

Saw one last year and my head couldn’t get over the lack of ring ding ding.
It was gorgeous.

Nice bike weeksy, enjoy!

Those CP3 engines get great reviews, I'm hoping to test ride a MT09 SP in the near future.

Top of my wanted list at the moment, though, is a Triumph Street Triple RS - hoping to get a test ride sorted next week.

I rode an SP at Donington and the handling wasn't as good as the xsr. Even less so with the Nitron I've got on it now.

Been a busy 6 days

I suspect after I've had a blast on the Triumph I'll be signing on the dotted line lol!

Yeah that’s it.
I thought it looks kinda familiar, but couldn’t figure out why.
Gorgeous machine.

Enjoy your new bike.

I rode this and the STriple back to back and plumped for the XSR.
The ergonomics suit me better and I like that there's more engine braking.
Initially I thought it was a bit tall, but used to it now.

I have the anniversary version,
XSR900 at Loch Maree

My R&G tailtidy is a bit too short on wet days.
I recently added the small Yammie midge screen, but prefer the clean air you get without it.
I put Oury grips on it as the bar feels a bit buzzy at times.
I still run the stock exhaust and shocks as I think they work fine for road.

Nice one Weeksy, awesome motor those CP3's! I rode an MT-09 with the full akra system fitted a couple of years ago, it sounded incredible!

Enjoy...

Swapping the exhaust for a full mt09 system gave me unpainted headers which is great, but it lost some of the fruity noise which is a shame. Sadly a decent exhaust is £500+ used, which is more than I'm prepared to pay at the moment. The standard exhaust suits the bike, so it's purely for noise.

I've ridden more miles, more trips and more fun than in years since buying this.

I had an MT09 with Akra also and the noise was superb, but the crappy fueling, suspension, buzzy bars and uncomfortable seat meant it tenure was short lived.

I’m on an ‘18 plate ST3 RS now and it’s so much a better bike for me, although I find myself riding the Speed Twin out of choice...

I agree on the issues on the MT-09, but happily they're not present on the XSR900. It's one of if not the smoothest fuelling bikes i've ever ridden. Suspension with the Nitron shock is a lot nicer and more plush, i'll see on the 18th at Silverstone how it performs.

I just can't do Triumphs, i don't know why, but they're just not for me.

Awesome very envious. Don’t know much about motorbikes but I’m wanting to do my full test now I have my cbt and it’s lower powered counter part is my bike of choice once I’ve passed.

Awesome very envious.

Like wise.  I’d love to own a motorbike like that but since sliding across a main road between cars after crashing a Fizzie 30 years ago I’ve been afraid of them.   it’d very much be a late mid life crisis now needing lessons, a test and several purchases as I gain limited experience at weekends e.g. too late.

Loving looking machine though Weeksy, very nice.

You mean put my money where my mouth is?You mad or what?

Well, this summer is nearly over then the bike will be mothballed as i don't recall you being a winter rider so this time next year is good for me.I will say its odds on i will lose because you always rationalise some way or other the moving on of a perfectly decent motorcycle.Undergo a little introspection, think of all the posts over the years where you have justified to yourself and for some bizarre reason your internet circle the moving on of barely ridden bikes for no other reason than your bored with it.
Hey,it's a free country and frankly your behaviour none of my business, i'm just attempting to inject a touch of reality.
Regardless, enjoy your new bike, its a great moment in life.

That's why it's good there's lots of choice. everyone is different and that's a good thing. I'm a bit of a self confessed Triumph fanboi but other things are always catching my eye.
