Still saving up for an Ebike but until I can afford one this will have to do

So not exactly new bike day today, I’ve had it a couple of days now. My Kawasaki conked out on the way to work last Thursday, test rode this on Friday picked up a brand new one on Tuesday.
Was tempted by one of these because they were so cheap, kind of had my hand forced because the Kwak died (again) and was pleasantly surprised on the test ride.
First ride to work and back on it today and it was lovely, so relaxing and smooth. I just wanted to tell someone about it I did think about a motorbike forum but it’s not fast or expensive enough for most of those so thought I’d vent here.
Can’t wait to get it run in so I can use all the revs, couldn’t do that on the Kwak because I’d have been in a hedge.
Looks a thoroughly sensible purchase
Nice! Was dreaming of owning one of those (in yellow) last week after seeing a review. A nice simple classy non-nonsense bike, and just how a bike should look. Let us know how you get on with the trip thing if you get a moment, that’s the only real con I’ve heard about the whole package? Dry sunny weekend ahead hopefully, enjoy the nice red bike!
Looks mint. Come back and let us know how it is. I live around the corner from a dealer and they've got at least one of everything in the showroom, they're very tempting.
I've had my licence since November and it's burning a whole in my pocket.
Tried the tripper coming home today, not a fan so far but might be useful on occasion. The app is clunky, and you have to rely on the automatic route, no route planning capabilities yet.
It appears to talk into your helmet too, but my headset is crap and couldn’t really hear the instructions.
@sharkattack, have a test ride on one, I really like it. Had an Er6 since I passed my test and it was ok, but over the winter I’ve been concentrating so much on throttle control it’s been stressful and not enjoyable.
This is soft and controllable but will keep up with traffic and not buzzy, it’s the first bike I’ve ridden (out of 3) that I’ve actually wanted to keep riding or actually go for a ride just for the sake of it.
Congratulations!!! Enjoy.
Lovely that.
Much more my kind of bike.
Never been a fan of sports bikes. 👌
Nice bike 🙂 They get cracking reviews. Enjoy 👍
Sounds promising. Probably ideal as a first bike for sunny days and occasional commuting. I've never fancied a sports bike.
My problem at the minute is sky high insurance quotes. All the bikes I thought I wanted are out of reach until I get some no claims bonus.
I was considering a Mutt 250. Even cheaper than a Royal Enfield I could be on the road for well under 5k.
that is very nice indeed. that bike is definitely the type of bike that i like (along with scrambler bikes those retro modern ones with the big knobbly tyres).
@sharkattack this is even cheaper than the mutt I think £3850otr. I’ve got 2 years ncd from a scooter, comp cover is £154 a year pcp is £62.50 per month.
I did think I’d have liked cruisers, I didn’t like the seating position on the scooter, but it’s more than fine on this. I came home my least favourite way home tonight, NSL twisty, narrow and nadgery and it was super relaxing, I even think I carried more corner speed on this that the ER6
Still saving up for an Ebike but until I can afford one this will have to do
Looks like that would be much faster up those fire roads than an ebike but might upset the ramblers a bit.

Is it a mullet? What tyres? 🤔😉
I'd love a motorbike and that looks lovely, but, this is where Mrs Fazzini draws the line with an outright "never!"
I rode a RE Himalayan a few months ago. It was a really endearing thing to ride. Pottering along at normal traffic speeds and it genuinely gave me a feel good feeling. They're a great antidote to the £20k hitech GS types

You're right, I thought they were all about the same price as the Interceptor. This is very doable, I'll get some insurance quotes.
Time for a closer look at the local dealer! They do look like a much more quality option than the Mutt.
I don't know if it's true of this one but the Enfields in India sounded amazing.
Me too!
Picked up this 2008 piece of Italian trellisy goodness yesterday. It popped up local on ebay so I snapped it up. Previous owner is very fussy and the bike is mint.

The RE is very nice (as is the Ducati in a different way), good choice!
I’d been looking at getting another Honda C90 for cheap relaxed bimbling on but the meteor may be getting a look in now.
While we have all the bikers in the house can I ask who people are insuring with? I've been using comparison sites to get ballpark figures (which is what ruled out all of the bikes I thought I could buy!)
The Royal Enfield Meteor is still coming up at over £550 so I'll try some specialists before I hit the button.
The sun is shining and I think I could be up and running this month if I pull my finger out.
I wish I'd bought a C90 a coule of years back but there was no way I was paying a grand for one.
Fast forward two years and that same C90 will be more like £1800, prices are mad.
I used Hastings direct for mine.
45, clean licence, 450 excess, 0 NCD, 4000 miles a year cost £170

£2 1/4K for a low mileage, good condition grey import is what I’m looking at atm. I’ve got one over at our place in Ireland and it’s one of the best bikes I’ve ever owned, always makes me smile. It’s the only bike I’ve had where I’ve actually wanted to work on it myself. Mind you I only paid £600 for it which adds to the charm.
Currently on a 250 Yam scooter and just fancy a change, only issue is my mileage, commuting into town, is fairly low p.a so it’s a bit of a hit for a toy that will get little use (and it’ll probe slower than the scooter).
I used MCN compare for my insurance, was with Hastings but they don’t have the meteor on their system at the mo so I had to set up a new policy and Devitt were cheapest. £154 comp £250 excess 39 with 2 years NCD. Kept on the drive.
That Ducati is lovely, I still list after big bikes, went out on the roadie this morning and saw a few GS boys out, I’d love one but can’t afford it or justify it for my use. I reckon a big modern bike would be more relaxing than mid size bikes because you’ve got the safety net gadgets you don’t get on 650s. TC and a rain mode would have been much more relaxing than a sticky throttle.
Mrs P is also solidly no motorbikes, hence me venting on here about how much I like it 😂 it took me 5 years of 200mile per week bicycle commutes to convince her it was a sensible idea.
C90s are cool, I showed Mrs P a picture of the new Dax they’re bringing out and she just rolled her eyes at me 😂 I’ve been told that I can only have one at a time so I need to stop looking now. Happy with this.
Tempted to get the tank wrapped in black gloss though and remove the wheel stripes for the full murdered out look.
My insurance is with Bikesure
50, 5 years NCD on a Yamaha MT-07 costs me about £100.
Right, I've been on a little scouting mission...
The yellow ones in the pic are the basic Meteor 350 like the OP's. There was a red one in the workshop which was very nice close up. That's definitely the one I'd buy as I much prefer the satin black hardware to the chrome on the more expensive models.

This blue one is the Meteor demo bike. He said I can take it out with an hours notice. I might take him up on it.

Tempted to get the tank wrapped in black gloss though and remove the wheel stripes for the full murdered out look.
I really like the red tank but I'd lose the wheel stripes. They don't suit a classic style bike.
Nice.
I've had big and fast bikes in the past, now I'd like one of these Honda CT125 for a bit of local lane pootling:
Unfortunately not imported and not too cheap.
5 years of 200mile per week bicycle commutes
So based on my 40 mile per week commute, I've only got 25 more years to go. Bugger. 🤦🏻♂️🙇🏻♂️

😂
Worth a go sharkattack, I preferred the yellow one, but would have had to wait for that and needed a bike for work. I do like the Red though, it’s really grown on me, still deciding on the wheel stripes. I definitely prefer the matte black to the chrome, and I don’t like the sissy bar or screen, they make it look like you’re trying to be a big Harley boy on a budget.
@qwerty was in the same boat last year, ie seriously planning on a CT/Hunter Cub until I realised the likely costs.
Since having a good look at the Royal Enfield Himalayan as an alternative but it’s really a different beast. Still 60-70+ MPG tho, but it really was the insane fuel economy I liked about the Honda as a rural runaround
And RE have just announced the Scram 411 to mess with my brain some more

This one is selling local to me. Obviously it's had some work but it's a fair chunk more than I paid for my year 2000 GSX750.
I like it though 😊

I'm after a ratty little moped so that I can shuttle myself on river sections on my SUP. Leave van at end, moped back to start, paddle river then drive back to moped.
Can't justify that sort of price, plus it would get stolen I imagine.
I’m after a ratty little moped
‘Ratty’ can be inexpensive and looks like a nail. ‘Natty’ is extortionate and looks like a hipster
For your requirements I’d go with ‘scratty’ although I’d imagine these days that mopeds get nicked whatever?
That's a cracking looking bike, very similar looking to my street twin which I really love riding. Much prefer the look of them to a transformer but don't think I'll have much choice but to change to something else in another year.
Well the deposit has gone down on a JDM Honda C90. Was sorely tempted by the RE Meteor but I really don’t have a use for a full motorbike at present. Just got to wait for the registration process to be done.
That RE looks great.
I'm expecting it to be "New bike day" at any moment. Can't wait!!
@golfchick I love the Street (and Speed) twins, if my ER6 hadn’t died I’d have been looking at either a Street or an Interceptor but circumstances dictated a lower budget.
Quite glad it did though, this weather has made going into the office a joy, I even went to band practice on it (drums were there luckily, that could’ve been a challenge) I would never have done that on my old bike or scooter when the car was available. It was happy at 50ish down the main A roads and unlit lanes, would recommend it to anyone who wants a cheap, very cheerful runabout as long as you’re not in a hurry.
Once it’s run in, I’ll be able to go everywhere at 60-70 but treating it gently now especially before the 300mile running in service. Should be done in a couple of weeks
I've been back to that dealer twice since I posted those photos. Still haven't committed to anything.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it though. There's really nothing else like it on the market for that money.
Had to deliver a birthday card to a family friend tonight, I duly volunteered to go on the bike. Obviously it’s much cheaper than taking the car in these times of expensive fuel.
Still loving it, whether it’s because the bike is good or because it’s more my style I don’t know, but I like the pace of it, I’m confident on it and I like the way it looks. Wouldn’t hurt if it was a bit faster, but meh, maybe in a few years I’ll spring for that 1250GS
If it makes you happy then all is good. Riding a motorbike isn't about riding at stupid speeds. I had as much fun on my 125 as I do now on my 700.
And the weather looks great tomorrow so I'll be out on the bike for the first time since November. I'll be taking it steady after such a long layoff.
PS. your bike looks awesome 👍
Cheers 👍🏻
Have fun tomorrow, I’ll be looking at it wistfully every time I walk past my bike tomorrow but I don’t think I’ll have chance to go anywhere this weekend now.
So my new to me bike turned up this morning. 8bhp of unrestrained power held in a state of the art frame: a 1993 Honda c90 custom (I have no idea what the custom element is).
Scooters are the best tool for around town although this is a little less power than I’m used to, even on a scoot, I usually ride a 250 yam, but it should be a laugh on it this summer- you meet the nicest people on a Honda
Missed this post @kilo. That is nice, was in (on?) Corfu the other week and there were loads of pretty tidy cubs still blatting around. I was tempted to try and buy one and ride it home 😂
Over in Ireland atm and with a day of sun managed to get this running after about five years + in a shed

Absolute pile of crap 😉 I explained to the wife it is nice to use as long as you’re not trying to steer, brake, change gear or be in comfort!!
So currently two vintage bikes on the go here

Couldn’t find a definitive motorbike thread, so thread a revival in time for the summer!
Had hardly been using my 250 scooter since getting the Honda cub, 47 miles since MOT in October, and had also been watching a lot of American “will it start” bike videos on YouTube. All of which got me hankering for a proper bike.
So finally decided to scratch a long-held motorcycle itch and another, probably unsuitable for London bike has entered my life and the tmax has gone to pastures new;

18 years old, 20k miles and just under £4k. All original and not tuned at all. Seller also threw in unused hard HD panniers, two heavy duty tail packs, rear rack and sissy bar and full workshop manuals.
First proper ride this morning into work. Bit heavier than my scooters but quite good low down oomph. Feels quite nice. ULEZ testing and carb kit on Friday so £350 ish for that.
I’m now officially old and past it 🙂
Bloody scrotes nicked it off the drive last night, I was shocked when I saw that it was barely after dark when they snapped the steering lock, annoyingly hadn't put any extra locks on it ever, and didn't think I'd need to because of how crappy it looked after 12 months.
Oh well it's no doubt smouldering in a clearing nearby as I type.
Sorry to hear that @prawny.😭
Are the police any hotter or better on finding stolen motor bikes than stolen push bikes?
I doubt it, took me an hour and a half to get through, left a few details and get texted a reference number. I suspect that will pretty much be the end of it.
