I’ve been mulling over changing vehicles, got a 5 yo Roomster which has been decent but a bit small for long shot 29er mtbs without having to take off both wheels...

Looked at a Berlingo car a wee while back but expensive and the garage/salesman was a pita so didn’t go for one.

Had a brainwave/fart Thursday and thought why not get a pre-reg van and keep my car. Gives me resilience (inc case the roomster develops problems with age), no problems with mob in the back and not have to drive a van full time...

Had a look at a long base one today... looks alright to me.

Other than the obvious cost implications of running two vehicles, any reasons not to go for it?

🤪

I think newest model leaves a large lip between boot and seating area so it is no longer flat.

Other than that, I think they look good as a bit longer than last version (which I have).

It's the XL Enterprise 100 I'm looking at (specifically)...

Higher insurance and 60mph on A roads is my guess at issues.
I test drove a 7 seater Berlingo mulitspace, When the Auto Petrol start to be sold second owner, I will get one and remove the third row of seats. I drove the 1.2 110 BHP. Seemed ok, but I am sure the 130 BHP auto would be ideal (live in town)

Not that many 60+ roads this far north... Shouldn't be a major issue I'd think. 😜

Ah missed the van bit so ignore my lip issue as it won't have rear seats (I don't think)...in which case non-car speed limits likely. Tyres may cost more as they'll need to be van specific - I think they have higher load ratings or you...

I've just got a brand new Berlingo to replace a 2017 model. Sorry, don't know the exact engine and trim level.

It's mainly negative for me. The steering is terrible - I think this model has switched over to electronic power steering? The engine takes ages to heat up - bad at this time of the year - and seems to be perpetually off boost. I'm guessing it is tuned for efficiency? The gearstick binnacle annoys my left knee, and I can't get as comfortable overall as with the previous model.

A personal annoyance is that the electronic handbrake is pull for on and push for off, the opposite of my car. Push on is sensible to me.

Upsides - better fuel economy, quieter ride, better stereo.

Thanks waderider, I was thinking I’d need a test drive.

In what way do you mean steering is terrible? I did drive a car version and must admit there was a certain vagueness to the steering...🤷🏼‍♂️

Sitting in the cab I did think that I was at full seat extension and it was ok, but would’ve liked the ability to pull further back if possible.

Re steering, have you turned off the really irritating white line crossing facility.

It’s mainly negative for me.

The original Berlingo was pretty much perfect (for the kind of car it is) but it almost seems as if PSA didn't really realise what made it good and each new iteration seems to be a backward step

That's a shame, I had an 2012 vintage one and it was like cruising about in a big armchair and it felt very direct steering wise. I've been curious about the new ones now there's a good 7 seat option but sounds like a test drive needed!
