Been meaning to get something for a while and as this new Axminster one has come out It's something I'm giving serious thought to.
Axminster Professional AP2920B

Record Power Sabre 350

Both are 14"(width of cut) new Axminster has the greater depth, 310mm as opposed to 285mm on the RP. Slightly bigger table on the Axminster too, though only single speed to the rP 2 speeds.
Depth of cut is more appealing on the Ax, as normally you only get that number on bigger(heavier/more expensive) saws.
Slight differences so it could go either way, and im sure it would be better than the saw I currently have with its much smaller 160mm depth and 10" width(less with fence).
"If its white its shite" is my motto re Axminster. I would try and source an old pattern makers bandsaw. I have a dominion and it'S great was around £200. However single phase (I assume?) might limit you choices.
You see my morticer is white axminster mid range and I've given it a huge beating in it's life it's never had a bad day at work.
I've been a fan of record for years but bandsaws I've always gone for startright.
I'd never get any Axminster 'trade' (indeed, the white is shite...) kit as they'll easily be able to get out any warranty claim by saying you used it beyond its hobby hours.
I've never had bad service from Axminster and their support is, from my experience, second to none. Also spare parts availability.
Hobby hours wont affect this, its in their trad/professional group which means according to axminster - continuously rated-for use with up to 14 employees, heavy duty use etc etc 1000 annually. pretty much a constant day to day use expectancy. I've a few items with Axminster, my big extractor and saw bench, the latter they sent out a replacement mount for the riving knife attachment, and that was well beyond warranty limit.

Startrite, something like a 315 would be ideal, but it is even at 240v a 16a motor and i dont have that here. £1100-£1250 is about my limit. Laguna or startright are closer to the 1500-1800 and outside my price range really
I suppose each and either would do the job for me. I suppose its a flip of a coin. The extra height on the Ax would be good, but i think its flip a coin and each has its pros and cons
There are some on eBay but moving them costs and second hand bandsaws are an absolute lottery. We once brought a second hand re saw think bandsaws on steroids it took weeks to get to run anywhere near good enough before I'd let any other than myself and one other guy use it.
*Edit bad gateway
Well thats another plus about the sabre, its got facility for a resaw bar(included). More I think about it the sabre is probably better feature wise, its just the extra 25mm depth is quite desirable.
Probably more plus's on the RP saw, and a few on the woodwork forum have the sabre and are more than happy with it.
I don't do a lot of that sort of woodworking, but I have bought a couple of tools from Lumberjack Tools and I've been very impressed with them.
I understand they get them from the same place in China that Axminster gets some of theirs from. My router table is an excellent piece of kit.
