Watched Organ Trail on Netflix. Proper brain-out attempt at a "gritty western", but ended up being very silly. Had it's moments of WTF violence, but apart from that, not really worth the bother.
Vesper on All4 - interesting SF indie movie that raises more questions than it answers.

Just finished second season of Mr Inbetween - Aussie drama about a bouncer who does random "work" collecting debts, bumping people off etc. It's got some very dark humour in, and some "dusty" moments. I can't start season 3 as once I do that it's all over.
Bloody brilliant though, if you can find it. There's HEAPS of snippets on YT.

Any Paramount+ users on here. The new episodes of Yellowjackets are horrendous quality, you can see huge pixels in any dark areas, and there are many dark areas. I've binned the 'standard' subs and will try the higher quality one for the next month. But I was wondering if anyone else (as OCD about this sort of thing) had noticed how terrible it is?
Zero day, 2 episodes in, it's ok, not great so far. Netflix failed to play episode 2 directly after 1, so we are watching it quite slowly so far.

+1 for Renfield. Went in with very low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. Fluffy and funny.

Great apart from the episode where the shrink had the bike accident!
Bugs me that she was riding a nice Bromptom previously, then on the day she was to have her accident they swapped it for a cheaper Dahon-style folder for her to crash, and then Ted presents her with a new bike, which is the same Brompton she had before !
So that Brompton must have belonged to a member of the crew who loaded it for the shots - I can't believe that saving a few K on the bike was such an issue that continuity could be thrown away, in comparision to the rest of the budget ?
How many Ford Gran Torinos did Starsky and Hutch get through, and Apple can't afford two Brompton SLs ?
Binged 'A Thousand Blows' last week, really enjoyed it! Some of the accents grate a bit by the end though 🙂
'White Lotus' is excellent (as expected) nice to have some episodic TV that forces you to only watch one per week!

We just finished The Old Man (S1) last night. Was very Good TV - great cast, well acted, multi-layered - but in that way that makes you appreciate the quality rather than just enjoy it. Not sure we'll watch S2; there's a ton of other stuff to watch in the meantime.
Also finished up S2 of Only Murders in the Building. Very poor season, although the last episode was funny.
Still watching and enjoying White Lotus; Jason Isaacs is very good, and Walton Goggins would be epic in Sesame Street or Hey Duggee. Also got Cra (Irish language) and North Shore on the go, both good in different ways
Speaking of Walton Goggins, the latest (penultimate) episode of Invincible S03 on Prime is so gory it'd be unbroadcastable on most networks if it wasn't animated!

Quite the opposite for me. Loved it. Each show was one take continuously filmed. The lad had no prior acting training too.

I was struggling for the right word hence the combo. It was the earnest banging away with the incel / toxic masculinity theme to the detriment of a wider perspective / story. You could’ve just had episode three on its own. Obvs YMMV, maybe I’m not. fan of social realism entertainment.

re Adolescence, only saw first episode but its a stunning achievement. I was trying to see where they sneaked in any cuts but there was only one obvious opportunity; in the house raid when a copper walks past the camera and it briefly blacks out.
I can't get my head around the genuine one take thing - so if an actor fluffed their line at 59 mins then they have to reshoot the whole episode? Thats a bad example as they can overdub. What about an actor trips on a mic cable or something?

Sisu: gory, foreign-language Nazi killing. Spiderman Across the Spiderverse - I absolutely love Into the Spiderverse but never got round to seeing Across the Spiderverse.
We started Paradise last night and are hooked.
Also still enjoying North Shore - standard detective show, but with enough Aussie-ness to make it very entertaining.
And Only Murders S3 is already a huge improvement on S2.

Walter Presents: series 3 of Arctic Circle now available. Some bonkers drama namely RIP Henry along with Blackwater that features some weirdos in an alternative community. One that I thought was good was Fatal Crossing. The rest I've watched are more 'Cosy Noir', ie they're set in Scandinavia and are Evilside, Helsinki Crimes and Freezing Embrace. All watchable, if not dramatic.
Whilst peak-Scandi Noir has long since gone a different snowy landscape can be a welcome and refreshing change.
Couldn't settle on anything from the usual outlets, then found 'Gold Run' on BBC i-Player .Based on the true story of saving the entire Norwegian gold reserve during the German invasion,I thought it was a good watch. This was a new story to me, so sticking with an Norwegian theme, I am now re-watching 'The 12th Man' on Prime.

yeah I also got halfway through it last night. The aesthetic is similar to Fallout in some ways which I like plus Chris Pratt is always watchable, so enjoying it so far!

My kids liked it. It had robots, people, people in robot suits and some action stuff.
Just don't, whatever you do, overthink the plot. (a) there isn't really a plot and (b) what little there is is mostly pretty thinly stretched around some pretty big holes.
I watched Electric state the other day too, thought it was fun popcorn type movie and enjoyed the cast even if it didn't amaze with plot twists and intelligence.

The only thing bugging me about Paradise is the (godawful) covers of 80s songs at the end of each episode. I already hate breathy/ faux sentimental covers of originally good songs, but these ones are genuinely terrible. Inverse recommendation - The Borderlands movie just turned up on Prime and despite (or possibly because of) being a fan of the games, it is by far the worst thing I've seen in at least five years. Absolute slop, I managed about 20 minutes.

Just watched Counterattack (Netflix).
Latin American, dubbed into English. Pretty basic stuff: good (Special Forces) guys vs evil (drug cartel) guys but well filmed and it's kept tightly paced. The final fight scene is a bit ridiculous, the standard good guy vs bad guy throw down their guns and face off man to man with predictable result. Other than that, 90 minutes of worthwhile watching.
