Watched A Man Called Otto tonight.
Really enjoyed it and cried
A man called Otto is very good (book is definitely worth a read) I'm enjoying Landsman and have just started The gentleman
Arcane.
Just... wow. I don't think I've ever watched anything quite so good. Everything about it is just incredible: story, art, sound...
Just finished S2 episode 6 and I think I need a moment or three to recover. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster.
Good grief it's dusty in here. Someone open a window
iPlayer has a two-part doc "Hunting Mr Nice" about dope-smuggler Howard Marks and the narcs who were trying to nick him.
It's worth a watch, good production values and tells the story well - including showing how he was his own undoing.

Went to see him tell his story at Rock City a good few years ago
Landman on Prime is superb so far a few episodes in.
Lincoln Lawyer
Watched S1.
Cheesy, stereotype characters, but otherwise fairly good lightweight legal drama.
We watched A man on the Inside at the weekend. It’s Michael Schur’s latest, so typically heartwarming without being schmaltzy.
we're on episode 6 of 8, enjoying it too. probably finish it end of the week now as im out a few nights this week. perfect for when you want something light to watch with a feel-good factor.
Finally got around to the BBC's Wolf Hall adaptation on iPlayer. It's fabulous and Mark Rylance is mesmerising. Rest of the cast is superb as well.
Lincoln lawyer is perfect turbo distraction, as is new Amsterdam.
For more depth (during z2 sessions but not tough intervals) iPlayer has TTSS, smiley's people and a perfect spy at the moment if you need a le Carre fix
Gotta agree about Wolf Hall. Sumptuous with an underlying feeling of dread. Damien Lewis does evil very well.
It’s fabulous and Mark Rylance is mesmerising
I've not watched it yet because I've still not read The Mirror and the Light but when Wolf Hall was on I remember thinking I'd happily just watch Mark Rylance standing still saying nothing.
If you like Mark Rylance, The Outfit is worth watching.
I've just added Loaded: Lads, Mags & Mayhem to my iPlayer watchlist. Looks like it could be interesting ?

That popped up many many pages ago. It's very good.
A friend recommended "Something In The Water" (Netflix), a shark attack thing. She did mention it was so bad it's good which so far seems to be the case! 😆
Dunno where the Netflix thread has gone.. but anyway, The Madness on Netflix is fab. Started watching to see what it was like, 3 episodes later had to turn it off to go to bed!
Landman on Prime is superb so far a few episodes in.
Hmm
While Billy Bob Thornton is good, the whole thing is just a bit melodramatic and soap opera esque. I've never watched any of Taylor Sheridans stuff before but had heard good things. The jury is out. We're 4 episodes in and I can't see me lasting. The ex wife character is utterly bizarre and the borderline pornographic stuff with his 17 year old daughter is cringe worthy.
The Madness on Netflix is fab
After watching the first few in a single sitting, we've been limiting ourselves to one episode nightly. It's far too good to binge.
I've just binged After The Party on 4. Not an easy watch but superb, compelling drama.
Dunno where the Netflix thread has gone..
It's this one, but someone has renamed it, presumably because it turned into general streaming, not just Netflix, recommendations.
Anyway, Intelligence written by Nick Mohammed and starring him and David Schwimer is now on Netflix, having previously been Sky only.
Landman on Prime is superb so far a few episodes in
BB Thornton is very good. Very Taylor Sheridan though, so you're going to have to tolerate a right wing sensibility, bordering on the libertarian at times. Sexism has always been in his stuff but the letchy stuff with the daughter and his ex is stepping it up a bit more than previously. He's evidently pretty keen on fossil fuels too, the BB character has just happened to regale us with a couple of speeches extoling the virtues of the status quo and rubbishing alternatives. I don't think TS is doing the writing but it's definitely his show.
All that said, I've sat through all the episodes so far and it does fair zip by entertainingly.

Ah yes, I see the url now. Cool 🙂
Joy (2024) film on Netflix
Excellent cast, screenplay based on the story of the development of IVF.
Not intense, good Sunday evening viewing for a family with teens. Plenty to discuss
2 successful births to 12mn now
The Madness on Netflix is fab
I thought this would be ok,but found it lacking.
Some of the (bad) acting stopped scenes in their tracks and too much heavy stereotyping for me.
Binned it.
Will give Black Doves a go next and see how that goes.
The second series of Cheaters (BBC/iPlayer) is worth a watch. Odd format of 8x 10 minute episodes (series 1 was 18 episodes now I've looked back!).
For the first time in ages all the things I have on the go (Day of the Jackal, Bad Sisters, Wolf Hall) are on weekly release schedules - feels very old school!
Watching Temple on Netflix at the moment.
Passes the time.
Anyone watching Senna on Netflix?
It's a "docuseries" rather than a documentary but they've made some effort to be faithful to the car liveries (ie including all the dodgy sponsors F1 flirted with in the past) though the script writers obviously don't know how flat Norfolk is as some of the scenes supposedly set in Norfolk appear to be have been shot half way up a mountain...
There's also some inference about British far right support for Martin Brundle ?!?! Weird (or is there some truth in that?)
Anyway, 2 episodes in so far...
The Pembrokeshire Murders on Netflix is rather bloody good.
All seven seasons of The Shield are now up free on Prime.
Wonder how it holds up now. Used to love it, and I was needing a new Narcos-kind-of drama to watch - having recently completed Snowfall.
Will give Black Doves a go next and see how that goes.
Just started that, it's very good.

Yeah, looks good to me, there’s an element of humour in it which I always enjoy. Like Slow Horses, which is currently filming the next series, which I thought was excellent, Gary Oldman is outstanding as Jackson Lamb, to the extent that I started reading the books, and it’s Oldman’s voice I hear in my head.
I watched the first half of ‘The Day Of The Jackal’, got to catch up with the rest of the series, and as a second series of ‘Dark Winds’ had turned up, I went back to the beginning and realised I’d only seen a couple of episodes of the first series so I’ve binged both seasons across a couple of evenings. Really enjoyed it, police procedural, but set in the late 60’s, early 70’s, in the Navajo Nation, covering NE Arizona, NW New Mexico and SE Utah, and most of the cast are First Nations and dialogue is often in the native Diné language, with subtitles.
A bit quiet work wise at the moment , so I’ve managed to get through 3 seasons of Brassic on Netflix in the last week or so.
Bloody brilliant , watching Ash putting in a posh acting voice cracks me up
On episode 2 of Black Doves - loving it so far!
Kneecap (Prime) - wasn't sure what to expect whether it was a documentary or not, it's certainly not a documentary.
Really enjoyed it though, very funny in parts, no idea if it's a true representation or not, will need to look into it more but either way it made for an entertaining watch.
Black Doves? Okish so far. Dark Winds? Still waiting to get going. Kneecap? Funnier than I thought.
Latest thing is Mrs Smith on ITVx. Completely preposterous but fun.
Started The Agency. Two eps released so far, it looks to be a good slow burning thriller.
S2 of Lioness is a vast improvement on S1. They have toned down on the family angst storyline and upped the action and pacing. Some very impressive action sequences.

Oh I really liked Season 1! Sounds very promising for S2. 🙂 However I'll need to find a time where I can get a 7-day free trial of Paramount+, watch the whole lot, then cancel cos I don't have it as standard.
The one jarring thing about Black Doves is how they're all driving round London at quite high speed, easily finding parking spaces!
Dark Winds? Still waiting to get going.
The worst thing about Dark WInds is that we can't get subtitles and it's quite hard to hear what they're saying. MrsJ has a harder time than me, being forrin, so between straining to catch the dialogue and putting up with "what did he say, what did he say?" it's quite a stressful watch.
Just started watching black doves. Anyone else spot rat scabies as a gun seller? When did HE become an actor? Pretty sure it was him anyway......
Anyone else spot rat scabies as a gun seller?
Bingo!
Watched Kneecap last night.
Very funny and inventive, recommended whether you like hip hop, drugs and Irish nationalism or not.
As an Englishman, I couldn't say whether its message was as meaningful as it thought it was - but it carried it off quite well anyway (could have been much more clunky).
What's good on sky / nowtv?
Signed up to watch boggle eyes does murder but didn't get on with it so still have 3 months subscription to make up for.
What’s good on sky / nowtv?
The Last of Us
Chernobyl
Succession
You won't get much better telly than those three.
What’s good on sky / nowtv?
I've been enjoying The Day of the Jackal.
Can't decide if the new Dune thing is worth watching or not - keep getting interrupted during the first episode and I'm not sure I can be bothered again...

Haha, not just that, there's practically no one there! No crowds on the south bank, no peeping out of windows when there's a shoot out etc. There's a scene where she reports a body in the street for clean up..... how long could you expect it to lie there unnoticed!? It's good enough fun though ?
The Day of the Jackal is soooo good. The penultimate episode with that hunting scene was just so gripping.
What’s good on sky / nowtv?
As chakaping said. Day of Jackal is excellent too
Also The Penguin and Brassic. Plus GoT and House of the Dragon
The Last of Us
Chernobyl
Succession
You won’t get much better telly than those three.
I'm probably the only one who didn't get on with Succession - I decided I didn't want to spend my evenings with sweary rich arseholes...
but I'd add to the NowTV list (in case you've missed them)
The Penguin
Watchmen (series)
Westworld
didn’t get on with Succession – I decided I didn’t want to spend my evenings with sweary rich arseholes…
I felt the same the first time I tried it. Gave up after two episodes.
But when I went back to it I got sucked in because the writing was so good and it was kind-of rewarding to hate them all.

It's one of the best drama series I've ever seen! Every episode has some genuinely nailbiting moments. Can't wait til the finale - it could end in a dozen different ways from here, there have been no "spoilers" so far.

It's been renewed for S2. That narrows things down a bit.
Might have been mentioned before but ,"I have a use for you"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b088s45m
Watched "The Man Who Definitely Didn't Steal Hollywood" on iPlayer last night.
Documentary about the controversial sale of MGM to a fishy Italian guy in the 1990s. Nothing earth-shattering but worth a look if you like that sort of thing.

Thanks.

Enjoying it, although I don't think the Spanish family adds much to the original, in my opinion it makes it harder to believe in the utterly sociopathic side of his personality.
Wolf Hall is definitely on my to-do list when it is all available.
Just finished S4 of What We Do In The Shadows, on, er, not Neflix. Continues to be excellent throughout.
Passing some time with Fool Me Once. It's ok.
I watched the first 2 of Matlock because it has decent meta scores.
Oh dearie me. I thought it was rather pants after the first but I wasted another 40 minutes watching the second in case I was missing something.
I wasn't, it's a whole drawer full of pants.
I'm yet to be fully convinced by any of these streaming services (I know they keep improving). A lot of what I've seen has just been a bit well plastic and hollow, or a mash-up of ideas nicked from all over the place 😀
Finished Black Doves last night - thought it was really good, nice bit of humour in there too, and Keira Knightly.......
Lioness Season 2 has been good too and Day of the Jackal.

It's entertaining popcorn. The characters are all caricatures of what a lazy scriptwriter imagines Texas oilmen to be like. It has a decent cast though so it's an entertaining way to pass the time if you can overlook how implausible it all is.
I'm 3/4 of the way thru "Churchill at War" on Netflix. Recommended (though I'm not a history buff)
Second After The Party. Character driven, very well acted and which keeps up the uncertainty until the very end. Highly recommended.
I felt the same the first time I tried it. Gave up after two episodes.
But when I went back to it I got sucked in because the writing was so good and it was kind-of rewarding to hate them all.
Thats the whole point of succession, to hate all the main characters as they are all such utterly vile human beings.
The scriptwriting is utter genius though, particularly the casually tossed sweary insults. Once you realise that the writers are the same people who wrote Peep Show it all makes even more sense.
I actually fancy going back and watching them all again

I watched the first episode because it had good reviews and assumed it would be along the lines of the rebooted Perry Mason (which was decent without being great). I cannot understand why people thought it would be a good idea to make it, it was just lame.
I’m probably the only one who didn’t get on with Succession
Not the only one. Unwatchable for me.
We're watching Bad Sisters, despite having watched the Belgian series.. enjoying the redo. My free AppleTV sub runs out just after Xmas, so got to finish it before then!
A good Christmas film on netflix is "That Christmas". It's an animated one but is really good
Thanks for the recommendations.
Watching Day of the Jackal & Have Penguin lined up.
Anybody for State of Happiness on iPlayer?
Just started Series 3 - would recommend.
A good Christmas film on netflix is “That Christmas”.
I watched "Violent Night" at the weekend, brilliant! Would make for a good Chrimbo triple bill with Die Hards 1 & 2 🙂
Has anyone been watching The Listeners on BBC? Absolutely stupid. Stupid premise. Stupid characters. Stupid plot. In the end I was hoping that the police would burst in and shoot them all. Including the stupid husband and the stupid daughter. Stupid. Did I mention that ?
