You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I know this is a bit of a niche one, but wow – 13 failed attempts at beating Australia at the WC and we finally did it this morning. I just watched the game and we were 8 goals down with about 6 minutes to go in Q3 then somehow turned it around to win 56-55. What an amazing performance! TBF, three or four years ago I knew nothing about the game, but my two teenage daughters both play to a pretty high level now so our interest in the wider game as a family has grown immensely and I love it. Well done girls!
Netball at the pro level is a fantastic game to watch.
^ Agreed - some of the passing was amazing (in fact some of it today was better than I have ever seen England or Australia play).
Even at the grass roots level it’s a really good sport to watch. My two daughters play, very fast game indeed. I actually prefer the grass roots game as when we’ve been to watch the pro game I found the constant whistling by the referees a pain.
But yeah, well done England! Haven’t watched it but will do later tonight if I can find it.
My two daughters play, very fast game indeed.
It really is - my daughters (both 14 and playing for the same two teams), one plays GA, GS and WA and the other plays C and WD (depending on whether they are playing with their club team or school team). The 'quieter' of the two (C and WD) never seems to get the recognition as so much emphasis gets placed on scoring so the other daughter often gets POTM. However, we've just found out she's getting the school's annual award for her contribution to the team and we are so proud for her 🙂
Haven’t watched it but will do later tonight if I can find it.
The full game is on iPlayer. My girls are away camping at the moment so I was sending them updates during the game but they are looking forward to getting home tonight to watch it in full 🙂
I will continue my musings in this thread in that case.
Yes enjoyed watching the game this morning. Took a little while to work out what was going on however it is a very fluid looking game when played at this level.
At the sister in law's now so don't think I'll get to see the Jamaica v Aus game but will get the final in hopefully.
It’s quite simple really - the one thing to bear in mind is that certain players are only allowed in certain zones:
GS – Goal Shooter – Can move anywhere within the attacking third of the court, but cannot leave it.
GA – Goal Attack – Can move anywhere within the attacking third and the centre third of the court.
WA– Wing Attack – Can move within the attacking third and centre third, with the exception of the shooting circle.
C – Centre – Can move anywhere across the court, apart from either of the shooting circles.
WD – Wing Defence – Can move within the centre third and the defensive third, with the exception of the shooting circle.
GD – Goal Defence – Can move anywhere within the defensive third and the centre third of the court.
GK – Goal Keeper – Can move anywhere within the defensive third of the court, but cannot leave it.
It is meant to be non-contact (yeah, right LOL) which is why play can be held up lots, a player can only hold the ball for three seconds (another reason play gets held up) and players can only take two steps (you’ll often hear ‘footwork’ being called.
I love it - I rarely miss a game all season watching my girls 🥳
So - will the rematch be as entertaining as the group game?
One of my favourite sports to watch on TV - caught the game yesterday and looking forward to today's.
Don't have kids, sister never played at school (or I was oblivious if she did), but just great sport to watch, and great that GB are at the top of the game 👌
