Anyone else had any issues with a Nest?

I was having boiler issues - 20 year old boiler due a change so I've had a 38cdi WB installed with the same nest device.

My housemate complained of it being cold so I've manually popped it on 24 over an hour ago (it was down to 13.5) and now its only just on 14?

He's not back yet to confirm if the radiators are actually on but it seems strange.

Also my schedule was set so it was 20 when they get up at 7:30 for an hour. And 20 when they return from work but then this seems to be very slow at happening?

Assuming all is ok with the new boiler (which im 99.9999% sure)... what gives?!

The boilers condensate pipe has probably frozen and the boiler shut its self down.

Find the (normally) plastic pipe that goes from the boiler to a drain and pour some hot water over it. Then reset the boiler.

All it does it open and close a switch. If the app thinks it's on then the switch is most likely closed. I'd be far more inclined to suspect the boiler.

I had the same issue yesterday, boiler had an ignition fault code. Our boiler is in the loft so I stuck a fan heater pointing add the rather long codensate pipe (at the point of exiting the house) and after about 5 minutes all was good.

Nest was saying "Heating" and temp had dropped quickly in the house.

The boiler was only installed a couple of weeks ago and I helped dig the hole for where the condensate pipe goes into the ground - it would have had to backfill a hell of a lot for it to freeze up.

Where are they prone to freezing (I'm assuming at the end of the pipe in the ground)?

Hopefully the housemate can get me a pic of the boiler to see!

The boilers new - the nest was doing similar beforehand that's why I suspect the nest.

I need a pic of the boiler to see anything sinister dont I!

I think the water trickles down the pipe so it can build up ice at anypoint that is cold enough. Our boiler is supposed to cope with -15c for 48 hours, but I suspect our long pipe means the water cools off enough to freeze once it gets outside.

ah ok - yep I hadnt thought so much about it trickling - that makes sense. The run in the garage is probably 3/4 meter down and then through a breezeblock wall and then down about 1/3rd of a meter before another much wider pipe overlaps it and takes it down to the soakaway.

I'd be surprised if its blocked but its a very plausible option at this stage esp with this weather!

I'd have thought the condensate would have been warm when expelling too but I guess like you say if its a trickle it gets time to cool right down

The boiler throws out a lot more water than you would think, disconnect the pipe internally in the house and put a bowl under it to test it.

I’m not sure what temperature the condensate water comes out of the boiler but Don’t forget that warm water freezes faster than cold water.

They are condensing boilers so the clue is in the name. There is quite alot of water that comes out of them. With my installation the condensate pipe is run internally in the house to a soil pipe so not at risk of freezing, but it did keep on popping off the boiler outlet and when it did it spilt quite alot of water onto the floor below, so could fill a long length of half inch dia. pipe easily if it were routed outdoors and froze.

Mine did similar to start with, a couple of weeks of checking it regularly in the app while it "learnt"

I also found it very annoying one night coming home, turned it on, turned up 2 hours later and it had turned itself off again without heating up. Not had the chance to test this again so will be interested in your findings!
