Does anyone have one of the Nespresso Vertuo machines, I would like to know if it makes a decent long coffee (Mug) that can be taken black or white. I am a long time user of the standard size capsules-it works for me as the only coffee drinker in the house-and the lungo brew is still pretty small. There seems to be a few reasonable offers on some machines at the moment. I have alternative long brew gadgets at the moment, cafetière and Aeropress but as I say, Nespresso works for me.
2 lungos in one mug?
I have a slightly older vertuo machine (it's now about a year old). It makes a great mug of coffee (I never found the point of the smaller capacity machines unless you wanted to have lots of very small coffees). The mug size it makes is a proper coffee mug (I use le creuset mugs to give you an indication of size). The machine has worked faultlessly over the year and nespresso's delivery / collection of used capsules works really well.
There's a great choice of capsules on offer from Nespresso (I'm sure you're used to the range they do if you already have one of their machines) but so far I've not found any third party capsules available.
Cost wise it works out about 65p a cup on average which isn't too bad if you like a decent brew and no hassle (coffee snobs will be along shortly to shout aeropress at me I'm sure). I have seen plenty of you tube videos about refilling the capsules but to be honest life's too damn short for that nonsense. If you can afford to blow a ton on a coffee machine you can afford the capsules.
I’ve tried all sorts and come back to a v60 dripper for nice mugs of coffee. Seems silly to make espressos and then dilute back down again.
The 4 cup Bialetti Moka makes a mug full of coffee in one go.
I have a Vertuo having had the smaller capsule machines before. I'd say the Vertuo is better and deffo produces a better cup of long coffee. FWIW I am a bit of a coffee addict so also have cafetiere, a clever dripper, an aeropress and an a Moka Pot. Each has their particular strength but I do think the Vertuo holds its own against them.
I've got a Krups Vertuo Plus and like it, but I'm no coffee snob.
Prefer it to the Essenza Mini that uses the original pods
Just be aware though, there are no 3rd party capsule sellers, you have to buy from Nespresso

I have a 6 cup moka. I am properly manic if I have all of that to myself.
Your caffinee tolerance may vary 😀
