visited go outdoors today and tried one of their neo type mats . I was quite surprised at the comfort and packed size but needed a lot wider to be truly comfy. what others are out there that might meet my needs preferably without the thermarest premium?
Thanks in advance
Bill

The new Robens Vapour one looks good value, not sure about width but light weight for cost

Multimat, UK company

http://www.multimat.uk.com/store/products/superlite-air

Superlite is available on eBay from 40.00 dependent on colour, I managed to pick up a slightly overweight version (as such failed quality inspection) for £25 on ebay last year

How wide was it?
There are some at 60cm like the Alpkit Dumo
https://www.alpkit.com/products/dumo

Their cloudbase looks pretty good on pre-order at 57cm
https://www.alpkit.com/products/cloud-base

Edit: Just seen the Robens Vapour looks identical to the Cloudbase above

60cm is too small for me and multimat looks very narrow also unfortunately.

tbh, I don't think you'll find a lightweight one wider than 60cm.

The Exped mats in their wide configuration are 650mm. Not a lot cheaper than the Thermarest though.

That Robens one has half the R value of the Thermarest one though. 1.6 vs 3.2

@kaiser What *exactly* is this for? Any recommendations need to be aligned with this: a high(er) R-value is useful if you are doing winter camping but if it's summer only then one with a low R-value will be fine.

Are you using this with a sleeping bag or quilt?
Is pack size important?
Is weight important?
Two/three/four season?

For summer ultra-lightweight use I've a Klymit X-frame, it's got zero insulation and is full of holes but it weighs 260g and provides some softening of the ground. For the rest of the year or normal touring I've an Exped Winterlite Synmat, weighs 400g and has an R-value of 5 - it's comfy and warm.

Don't go with mats that are thick but have no insulation, they will develop internal air movement through convection that will cool you down - they are basically Li-Los.
