Going through with a house purchase and the survey has highlighted a few issues with the house, but nothing unexpected with a house of this age.
1900's through terrace. Spalled stonework and poor pointing and flashing around the chimney, one or two loose roof tiles and potential damp in the kitchen.
Now I think i'm getting a reasonable deal as the house is being part ex'd for a new build, so i'm getting it for a decent amount from the construction company, but if theres some work that needs doing it would be good to get a few quid off.
How would you approach the estate agent about the Survey findings?
Get a quote for the work, and ask the vendor to consider knocking it off the price. They may elect to get the work done prior to the sale instead.
In those circumstances, with the building company buying it if not already owning it, it may be pretty easy for them to get someone to get those jobs sorted, so worth asking.
Just offer what you can afford.

How much were you prepared to pay for the house before you had the survey?

If the survey hasn't said if it has damp or not, "well it might have, but I'm covering my arse", then it's probably all speculation anyway.
Revise your offer to what you are prepared to pay or not.
When we bought ours we talked through the survey. Anything obvious was discounted. You should notice things like poor pointing, missing tiles. HOwever a few things came up that we weren't expecting and we got those knocked off the price.
