You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm being given an SLR camera by my girlfriend and was thinking of developing the film myself (I have done it in the past and she knows how to do it too) and using a negative scanner to import them onto the computer, has anyone got experience using one of these and if so what are your thoughts?
You need a very good one to get good results. But you would get better results more easily using 35mm transparency film.
You can get cheap ones for peanuts, but the results won't be too good.
Plenty of desktop scanners out there that are designed specifically to do just that (neg or tranny).
I have an unpleasantly expensive scanner that I use for slides and negs and it is good but it takes a f***ing long time. Having said that, the colours are somehow more pleasing than I have (*) been able to obtain via PhotoShop.
(*) no doubt someone with a Clue could do better :-((

On a side note, do you know if there's any way to get a digital lense to fit an analogue camera, or are they not compatible at all?
If the fitting is the same then yes, I would say so (at least it works the other way around - I have used old analogue lenses on my Canon digital). The focal length will be different though.
The focal length will be different though.
no, that stays the same - the angle of view changes depending on sensor size, and yes, provided the lens actually fits it should work
