So I need to raise my porch floor which is roughly 75cm X 150cm by 20mm to match the floor in the rest of the house so we can tile straight through.
There are currently tiles on the floor in the porch and I was planning on leaving them in place.
What's the best way to achieve what I need ?
Thanks.
18mm marine ply
Screwed down every 200mm through the old floor.
What he said. You might find some 20 mm if you shop around or throw some thin board underneath or screed above.
^that
Would I need to screed or self level on top of that ?
2mm no, your tile adisive will take that up.
Sweet cheers guys !!
You could use a Fermacell type board or a more tile specific backer board which you could stick down with adhesive to existing tiles, then just use an adhesive that is suitable for a thicker bed.
As above but be really naughty and stick it down with something like Everbuild Dryfix...drywall adhesive in a can! Seriously, I use the stuff for fixing up showerboard and stuff. Moisten both surfaces beforehand with a mister as it helps the stuff react.
For 20mm as a tiler, I’d build it up with some old tiles for a couple of layers, or use some 20mm Delta board fixed down with rapid set.
I’d never use ply on top of tiles then tile over as it’s not worth the risk of the top layer of tiles cracking without the use of a de-coupling membrane.
Could you just lower the rest of the house by 20mm?

I think this is the best solution so far.
I reckon the ply option will be an absolute ball ache to screw into tiles, especially if it's a large area. I'd favour Blazing Saddles idea.

The builder doing our extension screeded the floor while very hung over - to the same height as the rest of the house.
Lowering it to make space for tiles took them a couple of days and produced dust that gives me nightmares to this day.
