Not been to a doctor in the UK since probably 2001 when I got jabs before shooting off to the Caribbean for a while.
Since my return I've moved a few more times. Any advice on the best way to find a new local practice in Oxfordshire?

Your postcode will determine which practise covers you.

GP surgeries tend to have catchment areas so find which ones you fall under and then a quick scout around for reviews. That said particularly for GP’s people only tend to review them if they have had a bad experience and people's definition of bad can mean not getting an immediate half day long appointment with the doctor of their choice etc so be sure to filter out the noise.

Speak to neighbours also maybe?

Not to put a downer on your plans but if you haven’t needed to visit a Dr since 2001 I very much doubt you will be very high on the list for ‘ the Vaccine ‘ .
But follow the links above and register with a local gp anyway, makes life much easier all round should you fall ill and need to see a Dr

Very true. My surgery is excellent, very proactive and, although my own doctor isn’t all that, I’ve never had a problem getting an appointment with a different doctor when I’ve needed one.
My g/f’s surgery, on the other hand, is bloody hopeless! She wanted a flu jab, and kept trying to get an appointment, with no response, despite getting regular messages about making an appointment.
She eventually got one, and was getting messages regarding making an appointment a couple of days after getting the vaccination!
She wants to change to my surgery now, hardly surprising, really.
And I’ve heard similar stories from others.

I've been insanely healthy (**** it, crosses fingers) and have reached 68 with only the usual minor fractures, scars and liver damage. Blokes in my family die in their 40s with heart failure and my brother was born with dodgy heart valves, luckily fixed with surgery when he was 4. Me? I was born with aberrant radial arteries and few bits of extra plumbing in my legs, plus organs sightly outside the normal parameters for positioning. I'm the upgrade guys.
I did have to get a few bits bolted together in Havana after kitesurfing into a palm tree downwinding from Nassau to Sandport. 😉
Personally I don't give a toss about Covid. I'm old, bored, tired and have no dependants.
I just feel I ought to worry about being a transmission vector as many of the people I know seem to be in the high risk category and seem to want to continue their lives.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Well after a bit the lovely NHS managed to find me (my old practice had de-registered me as they couldn't get in touch with me for the last 20 years) and now I am in with the local practice.
Meanwhile the NHS is making up for lost time. How many tests do they want to do on me? No wonder old people are retired, its to fit all the visits to the health centre in.).
I may be posting less next week as I apparently have to send my crap to the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme instead. 😳

Glad you found somewhere...

I'd echo that most of the complaints on GP websites and "I want great care" are full of people who are professional complainers. They either don't get their own way (which isn't grounds for complaint, but they do..), or don't like the fact they were offered an appointment at 1430, rather than 1520 type things....

My best reivew is "I feel let down by DrP".

Hardly a constrictive criticism that I can work with...

Why would he be treated any differently to any other old git on the practice list?

Much easier than it used to be (only 1 sample not 6). If you want some hints on catching turds in a sandwich bag, I'm your man.

The subject you never ever ever actually think about until a doctor says "we need a stool sample" and you think "how the heck am I going to do that!"

My wife was particularly unhappy that it might have to live in the fridge for the night until I could post it the next day 🙂

Just do it in a jiffy bag and post that off. Give 'em plenty to work with.
