As stated in title, I'm about to start a tiling course and need reinforced toe cap boots/trainers. I'd probably prefer trainer type shoes as they look a little less "Bob The Builder". Does anyone have any really comfy ones that they wear regularly?

Comfiest trainer style ones I've ever had were made by Catepillar. There is suddenly a lot of more casual trainer type ones to choose from these days but many are surprisingly grim to wear. See if you've got a branch of Arco locally. Screwfix now do a fair range of shoes too but not as easy to get to try them on. I've also got some Stanley ones that look a bit like converse low tops which are very cheap and cheerful (from Screwfix) and reasonably comfy and a pair of Uvex motorsport ones which aren't nearly as comfy as they look like they should be, I've improved them with new footbeds but still very tiring to wear (I don't know where they've managed to hide so much weight inside them)

If there is an Arco local to you ask them to set up a 'Cash Account' with that you still pay at the til but you get a price closer to trade.

Go for carbon fibre shank and toe cap for maximum lightness. Steel will be a bit colder unless there's extra insulation around it.

They supply our work place with boots and a lot of people are not happy with them. Waterproof boots leaking, ill fitting.

I've always found Cat boots comfy.

+1 The DeWalt's at £40 - wear mine every day, but they've not a protected mid-sole so you need to be careful around nails...

I've been using DeWalts for about 8 years now, very comfy and look quite nice when new. They soon get marked in my work though.

Strange, Cofra are known for their build quality. Never had a pair that were ill-fitting but then I tend to try on a few pairs before I purchase.

Once wore some Cats and the toe-cap gave me a bloody big callous on the outside of my big toes no matter how well I cushioned them with socks. Conversely, I have a pair of casual Cats and, once I'd removed the stupidly high-sitting insole that caused heel rub, they have proved to be one of the most comfortable boots I've ever had the pleasure of donning my feet with.

I'm not convinced that all shoes/boots sporting the same brand are made equal...

These http://www.scruffsstore.co.uk/scruffs-comet-safety-trainer.html

Been wearing mine everyday for the last 6 months. I originally bought them for light work inside, but have used them for everything from knocking off render and plastering to tiling plumbing and wiring. They're still in really good condition with no signs of wear and I'm brutal on shoes. Very comfy, they're not cheap but worth every penny and I will be buying another pair

I can also recommend their trousers too, I've got 5 pairs now! I manage to spotsplit them fairly quickly and tothem to pieces but thethese are incredibly tough, really nice generous fit too
