My faithful 'Laser by Mountfield' properly died last Autumn. It's a 46cm width / self propelled with Briggs and Stratton engine. The deck has seriously rusted through and then the metal handle snapped. I managed to repair it but it's a bit short and there's no apparent adjustment for the fail lever cable and the cable is now a bit too long. I made do with a narrow electric thing that I got handed down from my mum when she moved but my garden really isn't conducive to wrestling with an electric cable.
It owes me nothing. The inlaws had it for many years before I 'borrowed' it for the last 12 years.
I did have a hunt around last Autumn but I think it was a bit too late. All the end of summer bargains had sold out.
I know the STW mower of choice is the Honda IZY. That's some serious money for similar width / self propelled. I've found a pretty much like for like replacement - a Mountfield on Screwfix for 250 UK dolla. I like B&S engines. I can actually service them and fix common faults with help from T'internet. Any better deals out there or other recommendations?
I've been through a couple of cheapish mowers with Briggs & Scrap'em engines until I found these: http://www.al-ko.com/shop/uk/ Reasonably priced and good build quality. Had no issues two seasons in so far.
I bloody love my 160cc Honda engine Flymo. Makes cutting the grass a pleasure . Starts first pull and very light and easy to use when going.
I've got a Viking - they're owned by Stihl. Mine has a mulching attachment for when i'm too lazy to put clippings in the bin. Decent plastic body, so no rust. Replaceable parts all over.
been excellent in the four years I've had it - no issues at all.
There's just been an ALDI B&S £179

I got it 3 years ago. It's been great.
How bugs the lawn? I got a honda self propelled mulching mower for £500 and it was cash well spent for my big garden! I just wouldn't be able to get rid of the clippings and buy cheap buy twice was the argument I used to Mrs biglee 😀
