the mother-in-law recently had some spare cash going, and decided to treat us all a little and buy some jewelry...originally she stated she was going to let us pick out our own necklace or watch etc. (sounds good to me)..instead she went with her daughter and they picked out our jewelry (oh) 😥 i have a necklace and earings set.... now altho i like the earings i dont particularly like the necklace... (nope im not ungreatful at all but there seems to be a problem with the chain...its one of those really fine chains that usualy break on me (but that isnt the problem....the chain is quite discoloured somehow....if hold it up to the light you can see patches of dark and light silver...it came a well known jewelers-where you wouldnt expect this kind of chain dis-colouration. Would i be within in my rights to take the chain back and tell them im not satisfied with the colour of it...i dont have the receipt .....

You don't need a receipt but you might need some proof of purchase. If the packaging has the jewellers name on it that should do

I gave my wife a lovely pearl necklace, she also wasn't very grateful.

When I saw the subject line I wondered how long until someone mentioned pearl necklaces. Well done, good work. 🙂

In the first instance I would take the necklace back, point out the faults and ask for it to be swopped over. I hope you get it sorted.

so i manged to send my necklace back to the shop today and pointed out that the chain was dis-coloured...firstly in the shop they tried to clean the necklace that i hadnt even worn.... anyway then the manager was called over and looked at it and agreed straight away there was a problem with the chain and it didnt look right... there was another set like mine in the cabinet so she was going to take the chain off that give it to me there and then.... but that chin also was discoloured....
its supposed to be white gold..... i guess they will have to have the chains inspected at some point....anyone they are going to get another re-placement chain for me so we shall await and see the outcome and hope the next chain will be ok (fingers crossed 😉
in the meantime-i spoke to the mother in-law who purchased them for me on her own.....and i get the impression she,s not happy (i think she thinks im being awkward...but i did stress to her that the manager agreed something was wrong with the chain...lol 😉
