I was returning from getting a fork serviced(more on that in another thread) And was just cutting through Queens park(in Glasgow) and pottering along, no more than about 8mph when someones dog darted across my path. Both brakes on hard and stopped easily, though literally inches from the totally oblivious pooch.

No harm done.
But the owner- some plump prick, leans in close and states that I should be cycling on the road, and that parks were for people walking, not cycling 😯 wow deluded,or just a ****ing halfwit.
I told him he was ****ing deluded, cyclists have as much right to be in the park etc etc, to which he's shaking his head and dribbling more nonsense about how im breaking the law being there.
Countered telling el fatso that he should have his dog either on a lead or under control, to which he comes out with more bollocks stating thats not the case and his dog can go where it likes.

I rode on, and spent the remainder of the day wondering if i should have lamped him one with the bike lock.

The dog was the lucky one(or unlucky considering its owner was clearly less intelligent) me and the bike come in at about 2 hundredweight, and i doubt the dog would have survived me riding into it mid back. And I like dogs, so would be pretty devastated had that happened. But this is really just a heads up that theres some over opinionated nutter loose in the Queens park area. Dog was a border collie, quite young.

Can you add in the age and social class of the owner?

I told him he was
* deluded

That escalated quickly!

To be honest if I was riding through a park I'd be keeping an eye out for people, kids and dogs which are all more vulnerable than someone on a bike.

I’d have told him to phone the police if it’s a crime.
If, otoh, he just wants to run his mouth off, forget him and carry on enjoying your day.

You are absolutely correct, and i apologize to everyone here of the larger body type. I was just angry and blowing off steam.
And of course when riding int he park im very diligent in keeping an eye out for other people, kids, dogs on extending leads and the like. I am pr for cyclists. Always a smile, an excuse me, a thank you.

I took my dog for 3 walks yesterday. No one nearly ran it over.

Aaahhh I've spotted the problem. You're not looking out for slightly tubby, mouthy bellends. That's where the problem lays. More diligence required.

HTH. Eggs all round. Huzzah! 😁

I got a labrador once when I was a student. It stepped out from behind a double pushchair (not on a lead) as I was level with the pusher. I had a choice of dog, drainage channel or pushchair so the dog got it.
I have a clear picture of a dog bending as I looked down whilst sailing ove the bars of my Raleigh Twenty.
It hurt when I hit the deck. DG ran off. Owner tried to have a go but I pointed out no lead, retrieved the bike and carried on. Nasty grazes on my hands and took a while before I worked out my shins were bruised from handle bar impact.
Long story short. Hitting a Labrador hurts, even at low speed.

I have had a few occasions where the dog prefers to be a trail dog and runs along with you. Unfortunately you have to stop and let the owners get the dog back:(

I’d say you have some serious anger issues there .

Ah, sorry…… as you were 😉

Of course it is, we need to know if sarcasm is involved when you say "Go **** yourself you fat c**t"

That would be the sum total of my engagement with someone in such a situation. Nothing to be gained from anything more and will put me in a self satisfied mood as I recollect how well I dealt with the situation.

It's always important to fight stereotypes, in this case the stereotype being the 'jolly fat man'.

It's always unwise to apply a characteristic to an entire population but in my experience most fat men aren't jolly. In fact, a lot of them seem to fall more on the ****ish side of the scale.

Now, it's very important to say this, but there is a percentage of the population out there who flat out refuse to take any responsibility for their own actions or situation. It's always someone/something else's fault.

dyna-ti's new friend seems to be in the group who are responsibility averse. It's not his fault if someone kills his dog. Shouldn't have been near his dog in the first place.

No doubt it's also not his fault he's a fat man.

So, it's a loose connection, but I think it is supporting evidence the chap in question doesn't believe in taking the blame for anything.

Yep. If they were unplump they'd have been further along their walk and so paths wouldn't have crossed.

You should have pre empted the whole situation with mindfulness and chakra cleansing the night before.

There are definitely people out when it's sunny that are not normally out, and who struggle to understand that they are just as insignificant as the rest of us.
