So National Insurance got cut and we all got a little more.  It’s going to a pension for me, but what about you…?

Wife entered a bus lane about 15m before it ended and 25m before the junction to turn left.... £65 fine.

Boom!

Not angry at her,  I did 2 similar stupid mistakes in the past month so there is Feb and March's extra cash gone to.

Extra? I live in Scotland and, lucky old us, the Scottish Gov can set increased income tax rates....
Anyway, I got paid last week and immediately treated myself to a car insurance renewal which has, without any good reason, gone up fr0m £177 p/a to £370 p/a. Nice.

As ever, a bit to savings and a bit to myself.

Got paid on Friday - not sure I'll even notice the 'extra' by month end!

I might if the robbing barstewards increased tax allowance thresholds in line with inflation.

just looked at an inflation calculator.

Adjusted for inflation, my take-home pay is down by £167 per month over the last two years. So the NI cut will help reduce my recent salary reductions!

So I'll probably just be spending it on general stuff - I just tried the calculator on the BBC site.  On Saturday I spent slightly more than that amount on 3 pairs of pants.  So that's this month sorted...

The "Global Payroll Experts" that we use for payroll have, predictably, failed to use the new NI rates.

I'm starting to wonder at what point I should start charging them consultancy fees for teaching them how UK income tax works.

All the socialist on here will be refusing it asking the government to put more in to the NHS not less??

Personally I will be saving it for a rainy day when I need to use private health rather than the NHS which needs more funding, not less

You think you're better off?

Bet you also believe in trickle-down & Brexit.

Oh, and inflation going down doesn't mean stuff is getting cheaper.

Final working pay of the month for me. so still hanging out on the last few pence from Decembers early pay.

Realistically though a car loan ended in December, so some into my pension, more into the mortgage (in preparation for the new rate I'll have in 2025 at re-mortgage time). I may also have signed onto the Ruark site the other day and asked them to notify me when a refurb came up, about 2 hours later I had an email so I spent more than I should have on some new speakers for the bedroom. I appreciate I am lucky to be able to mess around with such luxuries.

It's not 'extra wage' as day rate/hourly rate/wage/salary haven't increased.
It's a sop intended to persuade electors that the tory gov is on your side; they absolutely are not.
Blatant electioneering.
Yes, I know you all know.

Going forward, i'm trying to save up for a car as looking to change jobs which means i'll loose my company car.

Indeed.

And I have added complexity of Scotland having different tax levels now - and I am currently working out if I need to claim my extra tax relief on pension payments as MoneySavingExpert claims...

20p worse of, interesting i had exactly the same until payroll realised they had messed up. Then got the extra we should have had in a seperate payment 3 days later.

Been trying to figure out what they did wrong to get the 20p deducted as payslip showed exactly the same values under deduction as the month before except for the Total deduction value which was 20p higher

If the BBC calculator is correct, its going to push my monthly net over a nice round number milestone. So I'm going to feel richer, but in practical sense be barely richer and in real terms poorer than last year.

Apparently I'll be about £65 a month better off.

I'd rather they keep it and put it towards fixing some of the things they've monumentally trashed or f***ed up over the past 13 years.

I'll be using it to pay off a tiny fraction of the £2K private dentist bill I now have after my dentist stopped doing NHS work and the nearest NHS dentist taking new patients is a 45 minute drive away.

(I live in a town with a population of around 130,000 people with no NHS dentists for new patients)

We've kept the same NHS dentist in Edinburgh even though we moved an hour south of Edinburgh 19 years ago. Its a hassle but well worth it for the financial saving.

I'm staggered you could find any dentist taking on new NHS patients. Even at 45mins away, I'm surprised you aren't jumping at the chance to sign up there.

Give it to my local dentist who has just given up on providing an NHS service and is now 'only' charging £17.50 a month with a 10% discount for any work that needs done. C'est la vie 😀

And yes - I do know who to blame.

Extra in the take home pay ?

With the unfathomable depth of incompetence I've had from the HMRC for the past few years and their use of a random number generator several times in a year to guess my correct tax code and whether I owe them money or they owe me money, I'm clueless as to what my actual take home should be and whether it's gone up, down, or sideways.

After our pensions got totally screwed through the pandemic, I’m also seeing my contribution finally fall from 9.8% to 6.1% this month. Plus the NI ‘saving’. Looks like our post covid mk3 dinner is on me @p20!!! That or pay off all the clothes I bought whilst bored feeling ill.

No pay rise, but there will be an 8.5% increase in my state pension this year, on top of the 10.5% I had last year, which I’m not complaining about.

Likewise.   I can see today what’ll go into my bank account tomorrow although I can’t see my payslip until tomorrow, I will approach that with trepidation in a few minutes.  For several years now HMRC have a Jan 1 starting policy that assumes I earn £250k a year (I don’t) so I have to log on manually & adjust my predicted earnings/tax code to avoid a minuscule monthly salary.  Even so, I got told in October I had underpaid, so paid that off only to receive a slightly more than that credit via PAYE in December.  🤷‍♂️.

@frankconway: Two check-ups, two scale and polishes and 10% off any treatment required.  No idea whether that is good or not - currently (NHS) we have one check-up per year. I'm also somewhat underwhelmed with a £8 one-off registration fee when I've been with same dentist for 20+ years. What more info could they need? 😀

PAYG would be approx £55 per check-up - I may go down that route yet but want to ensure I'm at least registered with a dentist because I really don't like toothache...

I've just spent some of mine on a new monitor for the office, 27" curved one. Been getting a bit tiresome just working from a 15" laptop screen since my old monitor died a death. Still went the tightarse route though and got into a bidding war on ebay for it lol

Other than that, suttons has a good sale on seeds at the moment so spent 20 quid on there yesterday buying a stock of seeds ready for spring some 5 quid packs are down to 89p. Going to have a go at Beetroots and Mangetout this year. Keeping some spare pennies aside as I'm building a little pot to go towards a new bike

I can't readily find the reference, but I remember a minister saying schools were too important not to make use of the benefits of market forces. I think this is probably what he meant.
