I have a zyxel nsa325 nas which really only houses my movies which i play via a boxee box to my none smart tv. I have the nas wired in to my router. Now each port on the router has its own indicator light which shows connectivity but the one where the nas is plugged in to is always flashing indicating passing traffic. The nas is on but not actually in use so what could be causing this? Could it be permanantely broadcasting? Is it possible to tell what data is being transmitted on a particular port on a router (Sky Sagem router so quite a few years old)? The nas does nothing other than the ocassional download from a torrent site so could it be seeding the file?

The NAS will no doubt be looking for other devices on the network or something is trying to talk to the NAS.

If it really bothers you you could hook a Wireshark in the middle and see what the traffic is. Personally I wouldn't worry about it too much.
