Any reason why an unpressurised basket and a modded portafilter will not work on this machine? Reason for doing it is purely fun and that I have a spare portafilter and basket to play with

Planning to cut the bottom half ff the sump and grind/file it until it’s smooth. Then drop in the unpressurised basket to play around with the grind size and tamp

I suspect it will depend on how you are grinding your coffee....

(stands back and awaits to be flamed).

Got a grinder that grings quite consistently and quite fine but also can get coffee ground at the local coffee shop (Cawa) in sheffield or Forge roasters so not a problem on the grind front 🙂

If you want a project do it. If you expect it to make any difference to your coffee then you'll be disappointed.

I've got naked and spouted filters on the FB80 and I generally use the naked ones, but only because they're slightly easier to work with (they don't retain water in the spout when you wash them out, you can fit takeaway cups on scales under them more easily and they're easier to clean). Taste wise there is zero difference (some nutters on coffee forums will tell you otherwise, but they're deluded).

Was that snobby enough?

It is purely for fun and just something to piss about with 🙂
Really i am asking about whether the machine will work without a pressurized basket but the grind\tamp will be the "pressure"
