As above really. Just starting to get the first of my compensation money through, and thought I'd cheer myself up after what has been, frankly, a shitty few months. It will be used mainly for music downloaded from iTunes and listening to spotify and Internet radio. I realise there's a price difference of about £300, and wondered if anyone has either of the systems mentioned and cared to comment or make recommendations.
I have the denon and its a nice little unit. Spotify functionality works but a bit clunky. Mostly listen to Internet radio or stream from iMac.
iOS app is pretty handy.
The naim muso is on my list to replace my zeppelin. They sound powerful and solid wherever must I've played though it.
I bought a mu-so just before christmas, it's used for music and also as a soundbar for the telly. I was originally looking at the sonos system but was left unimpressed with the sound quality, hearing the two systems one after the other the mu-so just sounded right to my ears. i won't bang on about the sound quality as it's so subjective and I'd encourage you to get yourself somewhere where you can have a listen.
it's takes my music library from a synology NAS drive, although I've not settled on which server to use and am experimenting with synology's own and plex via a different source. Both connect just fine but I seem to having more success with getting album artwork working nicely from plex. Need to experiment more when i have a little more time.
I also use spotify connect which has been seamless so far and internet radio which is also works without a hitch through the app or by the 5 presets. I've also used the airplay functionality streaming from 'tuneIn radio' app and from iTunes via the 'remote' app. All have been fine. I've not tried the bluetooth connectivity yet.
All of this was pretty much expected what i hadn't really bargained on was how much better the TV sound would be. Clarity and depth are much better and I've gotten into the habit of running the sound through the mu-so whenever I watch the TV now.
The app (iOS version) works well but is not quite as intuitive as it could be, nothing massively flawed but I felt like I had to spend a little time getting used to it rather than being completely comfortable from day one.
To be honest, I think I've already decided on the Naim. I'll have to go to Richer sounds or somewhere to actually listen to one, but judging from the reviews I've seen, it's a no brainer.
I recently got a muso, very pleased with it, connectivy is good it just works spotify, optical, air play, Bluetooth etc..
Sound quality is subjective but I am often left wondering how does it sound so damn good, very pleased with it.
I would say the demo I heard in richer sounds wasn't as flaterring as it could be should really have asked to set it up in the demo room not shop floor as it certainly Sounded even better once set up at home as that's were its more suited of course.
Sportify Premium is/was 0.99p for three months and the better quality streams really suit the naim, there's also some high quality Internet radio streams that are pretty good too.
App works well on iOS phone and iPad, not tried android,
Only criticism might be the remote it could be a little weightier and of a better material but really that's as picky as I can get with it everything else is spot on.
To be honest, I think I've already decided on the Naim.
That's two things we've agreed on lately. Now I'm scared...
OP: As ever, my advice is listen to all the choices in your price range and pick the one you think sounds best.
I, of course, would just go straight for the NAIM system and not bother, 'cause I'm a fully comitted acolyte. 😀
<Thread hijack>
Excuse my ignorance and the hijack but how do these kind of things sound like compared to a standard amp and CD player, and as my iTunes is on my iPod and on my PC - how would I play that through this thing? The tracks are saved at AAC 256 I think
Are they really as good as old-fashioned hi-fi?
