Hi all, I thought I would post up my new photography website for you to look at. I also have a facebook page that has photos posted weekly. I don't pretend to be a profesional but I do enjoy it and I was convinced to sell some pics which has been successful over the last month or so.

I hope you enjoy looking through the images of mine and where I am lucky enough to spend my spare time.

p.s I bulit the website myself so if you have any ideas how to improve it that would be great.

Some nice pics in there, but a couple of first impressions-

I'd prefer the time delay on the slideshow on the homepage to be longer - I've barely started to take in what the photo is before it changes!

Watch out for your horizons! Quite a few pics are on the piss.

Some great pictures there.
How easy was it to set up the site with Wix, and how much did it cost?
I was having a look last night, I would like to set up a site, mainly to make it easier for friends and family to see my pictures, sales would be a bonus.
On that basis I don't want to spend out loads on a site.
It goes without saying that it would need to be easy to create.

If you have a mo, could you let me know how you got on? The end result is spot on!

Thanks

JB

Looks great. Must just be me but I'm struggling to navigate?

Have you considered Worpress? I like this site which uses a Wordpress setup http://www.outdoorphotography.co.nz

I like your work, it's very moody!

thanks fot the feedback guys, I went with wix as its easy to set up and plenty of options, lots of which make it easy for the visitor I believe.

CP, I know what you mean about the horizons. I need to edit them as they were my early shots with my wide angle lens and didnt realise I could rectify the distortion. All a learning curve 🙂

sturdylad... it was very easy to use and its free if you want it to be, I pay £1.99 a month to host my own domain name but im not too hot on the technical stuff!! I got my domain name from LCN? I think.. something like £6 for two years.
There may be better ways of doing this but Im a novice on computers so I just went with what ever seemed easy 😉 Wix do plenty of plug in and social attachments etc so you can create what ever you want.

I enjoyed the photographs

but I found the name across the middle too much to cope with

I've enjoyed using Flickr to make photo friends and really learn from others.

This group is great. Regardless of make of camera, no really.

We've published 2 communal blurb books and are just working on the third

If you want it high quality feedback is available and its pushed me on loads

Ampthill, thank you for the comments. there are some amazing photos there, like I say Im no professional just someone that enjoys the mountains and always has a camera on him but since owning a dslr for this last year It has made me realise how little I know about photography and very hungry to learn more. Its so addictive 🙂

I build websites regularly and if there's any advice I'd give you - it's look at whats out there, and you will understand what is performing well and what is up to date.

Ditch the scraggy photo borders, they're tacky. Ditch the background image for a neutral background colour with a soft texture like youtube or leave off white, put a rotating image gallery at the top on home page thats large enough to see photo detail without taking too long to load with a grid of maybe 3 x 2 of snaps with headings underneath.

Those are my suggestions. Buy premium wix too - it's so cheap, but remember the achilles heel of wix is it's SEO - It's CRAP. Single page site menu etc. do some googling - you'll see there are ways to improve SEO for free with a bit of graft within the legal confines of the wix TOS.

Nice work though 🙂

Yep, We've all been there. I still do it sometimes - got to be really careful to hold the camera perfectly horizontal!
