Gutted! 18 months for me. In reality, I'll just get 2 months extra salary when I leave.

However - the plan was to move back to the UK before then - so it was a moot point. Not for sure now that the UK seems to be going to hell in a handcart..... Sydney's inner west is feeling more like a socialist utopia every day

We get 3 months @ full pay but I've chosen to take 6 months at half pay.

Apologies but phone in sick as it has been St Paddy day for six hours and twenty five minutes. After six months they will have forgotten.

It's been St Paddy's day for nearly 15 hours bud. I'm in the future. (Western Australia). I've done a full day pretty much. Although perhaps not working to my peak performance level hehe. Got bought a yummy burger for lunch (we'll call that a pre-session lining shall we?)

Any Irish will be drowned in Guinness / Caffey's / Kilkenny / Proper 12 by this stage, I'd imagine.

1 hour 39 mins to go. Apparently there's some kind of "presentation" at 4pm for me. Gargh, hate that stuff.

it’s the law here - although it varies from state to state. It’s a hangover from when it took bloody ages to get from Australia back to your country of origin: basically and extended period of paid leave to enable you to travel “home”.

In NSW the minimum is 2 months after 10 years of continuous service. After 5 years you get it pro-rated if you get made redundant, have to retire due to I’ll health etc.

I’m nearly at 30 years for the same employer and I get a pat on the back and a couple of hundred quid. Not jealous. Not jealous at all!

I did 14 years at my last place and did not even get a card.

Anyway, has the pub got any closer? Did you get a nice card?

I've been with the same firm for just over 20 years, anniversary was back in November, not even an acknowledgement... meh!

I got the standard extra days of leave for 3, 5 and 10 years NHS service. At 20 yrs, I got a certificate through the internal mail 🎉

I was 13 years at my first ever job. Left it to move here, almost 8 years ago. On my last day, I had to catch the ferry that evening to get over here. Wasn't even offered to leave early. Thankfully I'd learnt over the 13 years to expect nothing from those f##kers.

Ah.... Well I'm not sure I do. Long story but i may have had enough of working this job. Nigh on 20 years in acute mental health wears on you a tad. Very stressful and I need a change. The 6 months off gives me time to think about things.

One awful place I worked at:

5 years service - £50 M&S voucher
15 years service - £1500 shares, and a trip to the company's box to watch a Six Nations game, followed by dinner with an ex-international.

I was there for 12 years - I have no idea why but it almost resulted a nervous breakdown - and at the 10 year point I was eager to know what I was going to get based on the above. It's going to be good, I thought! It was a paperweight, and dinner at a local hotel with some of the directors. Despite the fact that plenty of places give nothing, it still rankles, probably because it was such a terrible place and generally did the very minimum for it's employees. Almost everyone I know who survived it has the same story - breakdown.

I've been in my job for just over 15 years.
I think for my 10th anniversary i got to choose a crappy gift from a catalogue, for 15 years i got an automated e-card from HR.

I do work for a horrible multi-national money-making machine who see's me as no more than a number on a balance sheet, so didn't expect much more.

There are 2 managers retiring from our place next month, one with 42 years service, the other with 30. All they'll be getting is a pub lunch with the rest of our dept (about 20 people)

re: tax - yup we do our tax returns each year and usually get a few k back between me and Mrs Aphex

The 3 months off at full pay (or 6 at half) is a pretty sweet deal tbf

We can also work 4 years at 75% salary then take the 5th year off and still get paid 75% salary. My s-i-l is taking a year off after we get back from our hol.

Its not all spiders, sharks and snakes ya know! (ummm... sometimes it's fire, flood or swarms of locusts)

Been at my workplace (somerset uk) 19 years and after 15 years they give you an extra 40days holiday for that one year only on the condition you have to take it and two normal weeks off in one hit to do something good for your self. All on full pay, the owner read a book years ago that recommended a break from work after 15 years revitalises the employee 👌

I had my 20th anniversary the other year, got an engraved glass plaque, a couple of engraved gin glasses and a few litre bottles of gin (Tanqueray as that's what I drink). Small cash strapped company which had just recovered from liquidation, so fairly generous considering....
