Have tried everything but edge browser won't load any pages. Have reset my broadband and tried troubleshooter but it cannot find anything wrong when I test. Things like steam good old games apps etc work fine as do my consoles and mobile (connected to my wifi).

I have Windows 10 on my laptop and use Microsoft edge browser.

I don't have a clue what to do tbh as I cannot contact Microsoft support on laptop as no Web pages will load.

Thanks in advance.

Airplane mode? What do the icons on the bottom right look like? Screenshot would be helpful to start.

What happens when you type www.bbc.co.uk into the search bar - eventually it will either load a page or time out with an error?

EDIT - STW is (un)helpfully putting the http:// in front of that web address, that’s not how I typed it and it won’t edit out. Don’t bother typing that bit just start at www.

Not changed any settings at all (wifi is on and never had aeroplane mode on). It was working fine yesterday but now it just won't load any Web page at all. I downloaded brave browser from Microsoft app store to try but that also won't load anything at all.

Edit am replying via my mobile phone as cannot on my laptop.

Are the date and time correct on the laptop?

Open a command line/terminal and type "ping BBC.co.uk"

See what it returns

Can you have your phone as a hotspot and connect your laptop to that, rule out the network at least

We’ve had something similar at work following an update, sorted by repairing Edge so could be worth a shot.

Go to Control Panel/Programs and Features or open start menu, type appwiz.cpl and press enter. Find and select Edge then look above the program list for an option to Repair (or change then select repair) and let it run.

As woody2000 worth trying on a different network to help narrow it down.

Also, have to ask (sorry) have you tried turning the laptop off…

Have repaired edge and turned laptop off and on about 20 times now lol.

Not tried the mobile hotspot with my mobile but will try that.

I did manage to load yt earlier but then it got disconnected again by browser. Checked firewall also and deleted then added edge to it but no cure.

Just tried mobile hotspot with my phone and still cannot load Web pages (my laptop still wont load Web pages I mean)

If it's doing it across multiple browsers I'd be looking at running a virus/malware scan.

System Restore?

I would also try turning the firewall off/resetting it. From an earlier post you said you have added Edge to it. If you have been tinkering in there you may have disabled something….

Try the netsh command again and restart the device if you didn’t do that before…

Use firefox with an addon with a name that cannot be uttered here, for it is the language of dark lords.

On mobile, just use Opera.

Other support options are going to be too complicated to explain via a forum from my mobile at this point. Try a scan as Cougar suggests.

Try opening an “in private” window in Edge. This disables third party extensions and cookies.

Always worth running system file checker to check for any weird corruptions that maybe hiding.

Open Command Prompt (elevated) and type sfc /scannow, it'll run through and check and fix any issues, then restart the laptop for good measure. Sometimes find if I've got a bizarre issue that you think would be unrelated running this fixes it.

again thanks for all your help.

unfortunately nothing has fixed the issue (have done everything that you all have recommended).

have made an appointment with a pc repair man to come and look at the laptop (between £59 to £69 they quoted us gulp)

i bet it is an easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing lol

i blame bill gates and microsoft for my laptop shenanigans (waves fist furiously 😀

unfortunately didn't solve the issue.

i am completely stumped as to what is causing this?

sometimes the page will load when i try it (for a few seconds0 but then it will then go to the screen and say took too long to reach address or address closed communication or words to that effect.

Netsh winsock reset

followed by

ipconfig /flushdns

then restart.

(I don’t believe it’s a DNS issue as you were able to ping bbc.co.uk but no harm in flushing the resolver cache. 🤷‍♂️)

one final thing… do you have an Ethernet cable? If so, plug your laptop into the back of your router using the cable and try that way…

unfortunately still no dice as they say.

this should be a test on the krypton factor tbh 😀

sometimes it will detect a network change the browser but tbh it takes a while loading before it says that then the same thing happens (took too long to respond/ timed out etc)

can you create a new account on your laptop and try Edge in that? It doesn't fix your problem but if it works tells us that the problem lies in your account rather than outside in the router or the wifi

I had the same issue, quick search found it was a known issue but like here there were loads of suggested ways to fix it.

For me I just rebooted my router and it all worked fine after that.

Reset Edge?

Open Edge.
Click the 3 dots in the upper right side of the screen.
Go to settings.
Reset Settings

Reboot.

NOTE!! That will clear all Edge settings including cookies, history and saved passwords.

Can you put a portable browser or the install package for a browser on a usb stick or something to get it from your working laptop to the one with the problem. Then install the alternative browser and remove edge? Then reinstall?

Edit: only saying that as I'm not sure how 'stuck' you'd get if you uninstalled your only browser. I'm sure windows would just try to replace it for you but I've never tried.

Alright.

Would you like me to look at it remotely? Assuming it's just web pages and you still have actual Internet connectivity (which would appear to be the case from sharkbait's ping test) then we could set up a TeamViewer session at some point.

Download TV. You might have to do it on another machine and stick it on a USB pendrive.

https://download.teamviewer.com/download/TeamViewerQS_x64.exe

Once installed it'll give you connection details that I'll need. The other way is if I send you a link, but that might not work for the reasons we're doing this...!

When is another matter entirely.
