What? Have you no Sole?
Crushed. Another test done in less than 3 days
Less than 2 days in terms of overs bowled. Not really good, whoever you might support.
The two games that SL played against the Counties prior didn't bode well for the chances of it being a long match.
tuffers on form this morning 🙂
Cooked.
😥
Cricket or Andy Murray being grumpy over lunch? choices, choices
Compton doing a Compton.
Let's hope Root does a Root.
Swan does a fantastic David Lloyd impression, though his Boycott is rubbish!
Ask the Umpire in the lunch interval today. Radio perfection.
wheels are coming off the Srilankan wagon !
oh dear this is getting embarrassing 🙄
Unfortunately the match has all the competitive edge of firing squad versus bloke tied to a chair.
This might ultimately do England a disservice. I don't care how many 80s he gets against this lot, Hales is not a test opener as long he has a hole in his arse. Woakes is not a test class bowler, batsman or fielder. Finn is a shadow of his former self. Having said all that, sub in Wood for Finn and Stokes for Woakes and things look a lot better.
Compton seems determined to have as much of a mare as possible, he is unlikely to get a second knock in this match, so I think it might be curtains for him.
You can only beat what is in front of you, but beating this Sri Lanka team on pitches that they haven't got a clue on is not proving anything.
Moeen Ali is perhaps the most elegant batsman since Gower. Glorious play watch.
Mark Waugh might have something to say about that, but I see what you mean. It is like the word 'languid' was invented for him. Still disappointed at the amount of shit being talked on the C5 highlights. Simon (once played a bit for Middlesex and got ****ted out of the park in a Lord's final) Hughes talking about Anderson getting a wicket with swing when it was a wobble seamer that darted away.
Wonder how many day 3&4 tickets have been sold for the 3rd test ?
Mark Waugh? Spent half of his career trying not to get dropped by the Australian selectors. Elegant but over rated.
101 all out. Over today, I feel.
Wonder how many day 3&4 tickets have been sold for the 3rd test ?
Its at Lords which generally sells out Days 1-4
Even for a traditionalist/old fart like me, I am starting to quite like these new cricket jerseys (on both sides)
My old one is very worn, not sure what to buy next?
I've got 2 tickets going spare for day 2 at Lords this Friday. Mount stand row 5. Face value £75 each, will sell the pair for £60 each. Email in profile.
Dan, looks like I'll be going on Sunday. Assuming the match isn't over by then!
Oh, I mucked up application this year so failed to get some tickets for friends, so these may get me back on the Xmas card list, are they still available?
They are. Assume it was your email I've just seen. I'll give you a shout tonight.
CFH - lords in the sunshine - should be a 5 dayer!!
One can but hope!
Although, my last trip there was the Ashes last year, the day of the skittling. Was also there when England lost to the Netherlands in a T20. Am hoping I'm not a harbinger of doom.
One doesn't go to Lords to see England win - probably our worst record is at Lords in the last few years.
The glorious murmuring of Lords.
Morning everybodeeeeeeee.
I want to be at Lords. Why aren't I at Lords ?
Waiting nervously for Sunday.
A wasted wicket there. Pressure back on Compton again now.
Has anyone noticed Hales' weird eye bulge thing ? Hope you get some play Flashie, recent history suggests it'll be over by then!
Stephan Shemilt not holding back there on TMS text:
This is one of the worst shots you will ever see on the first morning of a Test match. The deck is flat, the sun is out, you are playing at Lord's. Alex Hales has faced one ball from Rangana Herath then tried to hit him to Abbey Road. The ball is too wide for the slog sweep when you're on 150*, let alone in the first session of the match. Edged, taken at slip. Brainless.
😀
At the other end, Cook is the anti-Hales, watching carefully as Mathews slides the ball past off stump. To Cook, his wicket his priceless. Hales has just traded his for a bag of grapes and a shot at glory. Maiden. Are you watching, Alex?
Michael Vaughn tearing Compton apart on TMS
Kicking myself for not going today, but the weather is set fair for tomorrow - hopefully England can recover.
Buggeration on stilts!
Poor opening day here.
Thought Cook was well on his way to three figures - need a good performance from the strong tail to post decent total.
A very poor day indeed. I'll repeat my quote from the previous Test ...

Compton doing a Compton.
Can't see him keeping his place against ****stan.
The obvious question now England have more than 200 - should they enforce the follow on?
boycotts mother in next with a stick of rhubarb! god he can be obnoxious ****.
Great play by Bairstow & Woakes. What better way to spend a sunny afternoon than supping beer at Lords.
Who wants guess how much a half-bottle of veuve cost for the missus here??
Yes, good day - Finn really does have a knack for taking wickets, any idea how fast he was bowling? My daughter's school is closed on Monday so hoping the Sri Lankan renaissance continues so we have 5 days play and I can do another day.
We are thinking of taking my kids (11 & 8 ) who both play cricket, to day 5. My daughter has just started playing hardball cricket this year, and is loving it. Are kids still 1/2 price day 5?
At least, I would guess £5, the MCC likes to get kids into the ground, a few years ago you could walk on the outfield at the lunch break on Day 5.
Just recovering from my Lords hangover - lovely day of sports today! Woakes having a good game.
Enjoyed my day but the cricket wasn't exactly exciting apart from a bit of Woakes and Bairstow and then the first few overs of the reply.
Don't get me wrong, I'm as pure a purist as they get, and we do need pitches where bowlers have to work for wickets. We've just been spoiled in recent times with 4 an over and wickets and spectacular catches, and.... so a day of proper dig in vs wheedle out seems to drag a bit.
Lord knows how much your 1/2 a Veuve was, my sister's large Pimms at a tenner indicates it won't have been cheap.
Only minor gripe was the tool behind me braying about how much wine he'd had free from the sponsors and how he's not looking forward to the office on Monday because he's sure he did some dreadful business as a result. I do hope so.
Well, if the weather holds, looks like I'm in for a good day tomorrow. Game nicely set, advantage England a bit, I think.
It's a bit moist here.
Nice bottle of rosé just opened though, so all is not lost.
Looks awful weather . Real shame as game is nicely poised
rosé
wonderfully described by Marina Hyde this morning as: "Lady petrol"
I thought it was called Brosé now.
Covers back on.
Bugger.
Ed Miliband is sitting in front of us.
We're on to some claret now. Awful shame if I were to spill some.....
£20 tomorrow, OAPS £5, Kids free. On sale at North Gate from 8.30 am.
Shame about the weather today - the game is nicely set up.
Sadly it'll still be £38 for a 1/2 bottle of veuve!!
Ed Miliband is sitting in front of us.
How is he coping with the sandwiches?
Sadly it'll still be £38 for a 1/2 bottle of veuve!!
That is quite punchy.
EDIT: The cognoscenti take their champagne in with them.
He did well with an apple, Junky. No sandwiches in his vicinity.
I had 2 bottles of prosecco in the fridge at £7 a pop. The missus was supposed to pack the picnic whilst I walked the dog. She fqorgot to pack it. 😥
Flashy - hope if wasn't you who dropped that Cook 6 in the crowd? The offender was sporting a STW hipster beard, but I didn't get a good look at his shoes!!!
Have had 2 comments published by cricinfo today - is that a record? 8) (in case anybody wants to check, both mentioned Chef, albeit one obliquely)
We are truly blessed to be in the presence of such greatness
DId you get anything in about straw men?
He did well with an apple, Junky. No sandwiches in his vicinity.
every man should know his limits and he has more to learn in this area than most
Forgot to mention.....he originally sat in the wrong seats. Someone then arrived and said, 'you're in my seats' seemingly without recognising Ed!
So anybody been following it today? 6 off the final ball to tie, wow!
Only cricket can delivery exciting draws 😀 Good recovery by England.
think I might have accidentally woken the kids up with my celebrations 😳
what a great last four overs.
Absolutely brilliant!!!!! What a game
Wow!! Feels like a win!!
Well, that was rather exciting! 🙂
Seems the right result as well.
Fantastic game - got out of jail there - how good is Woakes - highest score by No 8 in ODI history
Ha, just remembered I got accused of drinking the Kool Aid when I had a comment published by cricinfo suggesting I thought England still had a chance (when they were just over 100 for 6)
Just watching it on catch up - I'm not sure I'd have been as positive as you but this England team doesn't lie down any more, does it!
Well i did say I thought SL would win, but unlike a year ago I hadn't yet given up on England (I'm sure the exact comment isn't hard to find if you want)
Compton to give his bat even more of a rest
Crikey. Didn't see that coming.
Sensible move imho. He looked Frazzled.
Not something I'd predicted, but I'm not at all surprised. He was clearly completely devastated at Lords when he realised his Test career was over.
Hey everybody, let's ignore all the depressing stuff, there's a cricket match on today!
Umpires now wearing riot gear
I don't like the world today
