Seriouly, I explained today to my colleagues that for almost as long as I can remember, i've experienced pain in my head if I were to shake my head vigourously/quickly.
This is hard to explain without a physical demonstration, but imagine doing a comedy double take when a lovely lady walks past..
The discomfort worsens considerably when shaking my head multiple times, but I can also feel it if I turn my head only once, to one side quickly. The pain the becomes a headache that can last several minutes to perhaps 30/40 mins I guess.
The pain manifests as what feels like a ache on the top side of my brain. And I can also feel my brain jarring internally when shaking my head.
I demonstrated how little speed was required to generate instant mild pain to my colleagues, they were shocked. They demonstrated to me how quickly they could move thier heads with absolutley no discomfort, I was shocked.
To put it another way, when I watch people headbanging at concerts, I wince instead of joining in (i'd like to join in).
I've played through many seasons of club rugby, and played rough & tumble like most lads without any real issue. I can also recall smashing my head on very hard ground as a teenager, and also a strange spate of being able to shake my head backwards & forwards like a ragdoll without pain when entertaining at parties as a child...(don't ask, basically an attention seeker)
So, in my paranoid self diagnosis ive come to several theories..
a) I damaged the lining of my brain when a child through smashing it around so much, that im now sensitive to sudden movements
b) My brain is actually normal sized but trapped in a big 63cm skull, so rattles around more easily than most, nothing to really worry about
c) I have some kind of undiagnosed condition that I should seriously consider seekeing advice for.
d) a combination or all of the above
Any head specialists in the house that can offer thier advice?
And yes, I know, I should have probably looked into this a long time ago. I'm just a man. Plus, I honestly presumed it was normal for a long time.
You will die.
You will die.
Before you come up with something original?
you need to obtain cranial fluid, and drink it.
every day.

I have some really good advice for you. Wanna hear it?
My only advice.
Don't go to Wimbledon to watch the tennis.

I've spent years not doing what you are about to tell me what to not do.
Thanks Mr Cooper.
I've spent years not doing what you are about to tell me what to not do.
Then why start now?
I sometimes get this although not as bad as you, I always put it down to being dehydrated tbh
Don't go to Wimbledon to watch the tennis.
I'm fine at tennis as I can watch from the back of the court.. behind Hingis preferably
patient ' doctor doctor my head hurts when I do this '
doctor ' well dont do it then '
sorry couldnt help it goes of and hangs head in shame
Then why start now?
are you serious?
If it were you, would you not be interested in knowing why you cant shake your head properly without pain? Particularly if people around you were telling you this was the opposite of normal - with shocked looks on their faces?
I always put it down to being dehydrated tbh
Im off to drink a couple litres, will report back..

Being one of those whose eyes stick out on stalks when a lovely lady walks by, I am finding it difficult to imagine your predicament. Although the eye thing does smart a little.

😯
If this thread is anything to go by then you have indeed damaged your head
Well I might, but I'd probably ask a doctor not a mountain biking website famed for being populated by computer programmers. I'd also probably have had it checked some time ago but I definitely wouldn't get uptight when the IT MTBers took the piss a little. 😀

What a bizarre idea. 😕
im not uptight dude, just wondering if you were serious.
as it happens, despite many a verbal bashing on STW - ive found (decent and seemingly educated) answers to any question ive ever thrown at members on here, plus many questions ive seen asked by others. As many people on here guinely seem keen to help.
Ive also heard of many proffesionals on here in medicine and other brainy fields, it seems clever people also ride bikes. 🙂
STW is my default oracle.

before I go to all that hassle of bothering to make a phonecall, etc, I thought it best to gather a bunch of advice from helpful people.
And unhelpful.
No nerves in the brain so it doesn't experience pain - QI or something 🙂
Just to try to put you at ease, mine's the same, people are different, some won't have pain, I do.
I can make a proper diagnosis if you film yourself doing it and post it on here.
I have a similar thing. Even a relatively slight jolt to the head from, for instance, throwing a stone in a river, results in an immensely painful headache/migraine that takes nearly a week to disappear. I can immediately tell when its happened, and have to basically write off the next day as it gradually gets worse and worse, whole jaw seems to tighten up to the point where i have difficult talking. Ibuprofen helps, aspiring/paracetamol don't. The doctors response was "don't do it then".
It could be that your childhood damage has frayed some of the strings (for want of a better word) that hold your brain in the middle part of your skull. The only solution will be to get someone to dig a number of exploratory holes in your skull and effectively re-rig the guy ropes to stop your brain moving around.
i get brain pain too. i put it down to my body trying to cram such a big intelligent brain in a small skull

😆 I laughed out loud to this
Have you tried punching yourself in the nuts?

interestingly I suffer from spates of jaw tightening too, immensly frustrating too. But it seems to be related to stress for me

same here, its stress.... or my big brain trying to escape my tiny skull
Have you tried punching yourself in the nuts?
Yes, it hurts my nuts
Well, there you are, then. At least it takes your mind off your brain hurting...
Have you considered chopping your head off? See if that helps?
On a serious note, the OP's problem could be sinus related.
Altitude sickness, buy a bungalow!
On a serious note, the OP's problem could be sinus related
seriously? can I ask what makes you say this?
I have terrible sinus' and had treatment last year after having a camera check them out. the steroids I took helped for a few months but the problems seems to be coming back.
Would be very keen to know if theres a link
I used to know a bloke who used to lock up after about 7 or 8 pints, the whole of his upper body, head and neck and arms used to lock solid, the only way we could unlock him was to pour Bacardi down his throat, the worst bit was trying to push his head back to pour the Bacardi without spilling it.
/\ that's mental right there

It's a diagnosis that one or two people I've known have been given.
I've also read that an allergy can cause head pains similar to what you're experiencing.
I'm not a doctor or anything. Both the above are just possibilities that may be worth following up. Your problem may be caused by something totally different.
can't say no to anything eh?
i blame fatcher myself 🙂
my sinus problem has been associated to a probable seasonal alergy and damage to my sinus lining.
the trouble is that its heard to know who to turn to - even the specialist at the ENT clinic seemed only keen in giving me another drug to try out just to get me out the door.
Have you considered chopping your head off? See if that helps?
As far as treatments go that sounds like a pain the arse.
Remind me to ask my doctor about riding technique next time Im there.
"So Trimix, how can I help?"
"Well Doctor, I have this uncanny knack of riding into trees"
"Hmmmm.... I prescribe you 3 doses of superstition everyday for the next 4 weeks"
