Just put some basmati rice on to cook and it smells decidedly musty

Had a smell inside the packet and there is a faint musty smell when it's dry

Should I bin it?

Tesco by the way. I should have known better

I like their early stuff. Before they were cool.

As long as it's in a curry to nuke whatever nasty stuff is in it, it'll be fine.

p.s. check for tiny little mites. They're no worry though. Boil them up, bit of fibre 😀

Next time, go check out the Asian section and buy one of those monster bags of Indian brand Basmati the local Asian community buy. Cost the same as a tiny bag of Tilda and about 10 times the quantity, same quality, and seems to not have issues going off when kept for a year in big resealable boxes as I do 😀

Back in India in the family home we have a rice store. It's a small silo in the store room and rice stored properly for over a year is highly prized esp if it's sun dried. Damp and mites are not your friends! Incidentally we buy Tilda 'broken' basmati from the Indian shops by the 20kg bag, it's cheaper and has a great taste.
We also store grain and take it to be milled as and when, as it stores better. Amazingly there is a whole street of small millers dedicated to this in the local town.
Edit: clean rice by rubbing through your hands in the pan with cold water, not through a sieve, then a few changes of water. The starch can whiff a bit.

Not worth the risk. Bin it. After the week I've had I'm changing my drum'n'bass DJ name to "Looseness & Urgency"

She sounds HOT. Like a mata hari stored in an outside toilet. Go for it!
