I'm three or four days into swollen neck territory and quarantined at home.

Had to miss a day out riding and a big family weekend so feeling a bit grumpy.

Please cheer me up with your tales of getting out on the bike again quickly.

(My nads seem fine so far, thanks)

I had it, took me a full 5-6 days before I could ride again in a coherent manner.

Had it three times now - despite being "only able to catch it once".

First time I was too young to remember but I'm told I was really quite ill for about a week and still not well for a few after ended up with two weeks off school.

Second time was worst at about 17/18 years old, felt fine before the swelling started, that came up on my face and neck on a Sunday morning and by mid week was in my armpits and groin. Took about a week for the swelling to start to go down then another before I could sit comfortably in a chair, cross my legs, or do up my collar on a shirt. The feeling ill really kicked in as the swelling started to go down and took a few weeks to get back to feeling normal probably a month before I stopped just being woozy and tired all the time.

Third time was about 30 ish, felt a bit rotten for a few days before and after the swelling, neck and armpits only, swelling was uncomfortable and visible for about 5 days.

Had a particularly bad bout about 10 years ago when I was about 31. Had the classic swollen face version which started to clear up after a week at which point it spread down to my balls (called orchitis). First the left one, after a week that started to ease, and then it went across to my right. They were the size of baked potatoes. The pain, oh god the pain. There were times when I could only crawl to get around. Fever, hallucinations, massive weight loss. Did I mention it was painful? The pain in my balls literally made me vomit what little food and fluids I had left in me. Woke up hallucinating one night and Superman was helping me across the bedroom floor to get to the loo. Then he flew out the window and I collapsed, smashed my head on a door frame and knocked myself clean out. I woke up to my current girlfriend shouting and crying and the sound of sirens outside as an ambulance turned up.

There, hope that cheered you up 🙂

warm bath filled with ~500g bicarbonate of Soda added to it. Lie down in it for 30 mins.

Stopped the itching dead - felt much better as a result.

or am i thinking of measles?

It's the thought that counts I suppose.

I had it in my early 20s. It was crap.

Started off with what felt like a cold, then that got bad quickly and glands in my neck swole up a good un and put a lot of pressure on my my jaw bone. Every time I moved my jaw I had a horrible ache through my whole skull. That was unpleasant.

I didn't leave the house for 3 weeks, just in bed and resting and trying not to move jaw. Was able to start doing stuff after 4 weeks and started a bit of work after that. I fetd weak but OK. Then after a few weeks all the sypmtoms came back and I was ill for as bad a before for a couple of weeks.

I reckon it took 3 or 4 months to get over it fully.

It was windy wet and hailstoney out and everything is very waterlogged so not the worst time to be off the bike. It was also cold as I ditched my Autumn jacket for the fist time to wear my winter but not actually freezing cold jacket.

Cannot help with the mumps thing but one assume rule 5 applies here.

I suspect it was rule 5 that got me into this mess in the first place.

Put a few hard rides in recently when I only had cold symptoms.
