It's because a lot of cultures venerate eating together as a family or socially, but work 50 to 70 hours a week - eg Korea and Japan - these tv shows are there to make single company men feel less lonely.
The British don't give a **** - they enjoy tv meals and when they go out, instead of eating with friends and drinking over the course of a number of hours - they get trashed instead. So they don't get things like this.
