Had an interesting 'discussion' on the comparisons between road and MTB rides....
Basically the question is ....... What is the 'scientific ' comparison of speed vs effort between the two styles of machine..... I.e. if a rider rode an mtb at say 12.5 mph on a steady flat route..... A the same effort level what would be the speed on a road bike with its bigger gearing skinny tyres etc ? 15 mph??
Is there any proven data on this ??
Over to you guys...."
1.5 is my usual conversion factor.
Watts / power is the only accurate comparison
Waaaay too many variables to make a reasonable conversion.
ah but you'd have to take the drag effect of baggies v lycra into account, shirley?
And then there's the extra weight in pies that mtbers seem to carry
Aye, but the weight of Strava failure (again) slows the road biker down.
Very few variables actually. Same rider, same power, same route would give you a very good indication. Must have been done?
