Morning, Just purchased some Endure MT500 trousers. Wow. How depressing. It appears I may have underestimated my waist size by a not so considerable amount....

They will be going back sadly.

Just wondering before i run the gauntlet of buying a larger pair. Much larger. And then probably getting it completely wrong. Can anyone recommend a xc pair of trousers? They don't need to be waterproof. Just something to stop me getting bitten to death by various insects.

I clearly need to cut down on the pies.... 🙁

Thanks in advance!

I too am looking for MTB trousers, but all the articles I find seems to recommend different ones and can't stomach taking a £100 gamble.  I have a pair of nukeproof waterproof trousers that are thin to go on top of shorts when it is wet and warm, and a pair of EXPL Waterproof trousers for when it is colder.

Got some Giro ones, in a sale somewhere (Giro site probably). They are good fit. [edit] Yeah Giro Havoc - didn't pay that much for em, but they are good

Also have some slightly warmer Vaude ones from Amazon which are also a good fit

Troy Lee Ruckus are my new favourite, Biketart have them on offer. Before that it was Troy Lee Skyline. Both are very generous in the leg fitting.

Just don't go buyng Leatt! They are teeny tiny tings.

Seen the Decathlon ones recommended on here IIRC. Sensible price

I'm happy with my Decathlon trousers. I wore them all weekend. Practically weightless and fast drying with no logos or fancy features.

I'm buying another pair.

These are good for XC/trail riding. Thin material and not too baggy.

Those look like the nukeproof I have, pockets are a tad small and they have holes on the front for airflow.

The Nukeproof Blackline ones are superb. Absolutely love mine. Always hated riding in trousers before buying these...

Will be another pair next or the Blackline ones (apparently not related to Nukeproof Blackline stuff!) or Mini DBW #000001 has recently got (ie, I bought him some) Patina Clothing riding trousers. Seem very good - maybe a slightly more heavyweight version of the Nukeproofs and a great price.

Anyone have a hunch on what the coolest/most ventilated trews are? I really like wearing mine but still feel the need to ditch them on warm days so miss the protection against the likes of ticks

I run quite warm so am usually in shorts, though all this talk of bug bites and ticks is making me rethink my choices

Those Nukeproof ones are what I'd wear on a warmer day.

I have other trews from Endura, IXS, RaceFace but the NP ones are definitely the coolest.

Yep the pockets are a bit small, but still take a modern smartphone OK.

I wore my dfyrs trousers at Friston on Monday. Muggy day, but so long as you kept moving, the crotch airflow holes did their job. I also wore them all winter, and they've held up really well.

I'd get another pair once these have worn out.

Are you sure that it's not just Endura's QC? Another pair in the same size might be just right, too small or falling apart after one wash...

I like my Nukeproof troos for pedalling in.

Though according to Evans, they're 50% off - reduced to £100 from original price of £200.. I'm not sure I know anyone that paid over £45 for them from Chain Reaction.

I'm seeing the nukeproof at £50 on Evans, but only purple in stock in my size

(Edit - it's the purple that are £50, Black are £100)

Thank you everyone. Went with the Context. Will see how they size up.

Irony is hopefully I lose a bit of the chub quite quickly now I’m back riding.

Appreciate the help!

I have Fox Ranger, fox Flexair, Madison and Decathalon. The Decathalon ones are excellent. Very lightweight, but they seem robust - it’s too early for me to say for sure. the Fox ones are typically excellent. Not sure I’d recommend the Madison ones.

Man up, wear shorts and plenty of bug repellent! The only time I wore any sort of trousers on a bike was when the weather was really grim.

I’ll have two of my bikes up and running in the next month or so, and I’ve got various shorts from Kona, RaceFace, Large Hardware from years ago, what I won’t be wearing are longs!

Summer - Galibier Trailpants and Fox Flexairs work for me.

Winter: Keela Roadrunners:

PS: Endura sizing is so random I've given up on the brand.

I’ve got some Fox Flexair . Sound a bit plastic off the bike, but you don’t realise your wearing them on the bike, nice and cool too. Love the ratchet waste too which covers summer weight loss and winter added weight 😂

The only downside is that they loose their colour quickly ie the arse area on mine has really faded

They replaced the Keelas above. The keelas are heavy , bulky cut in comparison and not good at all once they get wet. There is far too much material around und the ankles

I I would still use the keelas if below freezing and dry though as they are warmer than the Flexair

I got sick of paying 100 quid for trousers with rubbish sizing and average quality which get trashed / fall apart very quickly. Now if im riding in trousers i have a couple of pairs of these: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/men-s-regular-fit-breathable-fitness-bottoms-essential-black/_/R-p-312019?mc=8569366&c=smoked%20black_graphite%20black

12.99, zip pockets (could be a bit bigger and easier to access when riding) and seem to last really well. Can get three pairs for the price of the MTB specific decathlon trousers!

I think the purple looks great, and they're good value at £50.

I wouldn;t drop £100 on a pair though.

Tbf my first pair of trousers were £7.99 from Aldi and have lasted a couple of years.  When they were in stock last I bought a pair but they had changed the sizing and they were too big for me, and the ones in my size had sold out.

Got the Context through. Going to send them back.

Really shiny polyestery in feel and look. Fit is very weird too.

Back to square one.

Aw man that sucks that they didn't work out, I thought the context looked quite good as well.

Fingers crossed for you

I tried the Context Enduro pants a couple of years ago, was happy with quality, and the communication with them was great, but I didn't get on with the sizing.   The extra large were just a bit to big around the waist even tighten right down, the large fitted around the waist but were skin tight everywhere else.

A real shame as they did a long 34" leg which is a rare thing...longer would be better but is even rarer still.
