Hi, I’m looking for a GPX file for a route that runs along the old railway path from Halton to Caton, through Brookhouse up to the masts and then back down under the Ariel Ropeway to Claughton.
Anyone got anything? I’ve found some old posts on here and a couple of videos but nothing with a definitive route description.
Just to clarify, it’s a doorstep ride for me as I live in Halton, should be doable in an hour, I will be riding carefully, front line worker looking to de-stress.
Cheers

We used to do it occasionally as a night ride out of Lancaster along Grimeshaw Lane to Denny Bank, pick up the riverside line and then into the hills via one of many footpaths. You eventually need to end up at grid ref 571644, top of Quarry Road and pick up the trail there.

The times I was riding it was before GPS though! Lots of footpath, lots of lanes and the off-road is a bit crap anyway which was why we did it at night.

Personally I'd just try plotting a route that gets you to that grid ref and giving it a go.

I can throw together a strava loop for you, but it'll probably be after lunch

Try this. It starts/ends in Halton, goes along the cyclepath to Brookhouse, up to the windmills, then down to the Fenwicks Arms past Kirkby Gill wood, and back to Halton via the cyclepath.

If you wanted a longer loop then head to the windmills from the Roeburndale side, rather than straight up from Brookhouse.

Google "Lots House Circular Bridleway"
It's a short loop designed for horses, but includes an off-road section across Tarn Brook, which is not shown on my OS map

Greetings to Halton...i stay in hestbank when in UK. I saw the cycle path over the aquaduct has just closed to protect the workers up there.

I used to cycle out to caton on the riverside path, or Sunderland point but I think that's now banned.

The “Lots House Circular Bridleway” route is the longer loop I mentioned, which comes at the windmills from the Roeburndale side.

Just a heads up, If you are planning to ride the "Lots House bridleway"
the bit of Concessionary Bridleway between Moorside farm and Roburndale plantation is closed.
You can get about halfway up past the Waterworks, but no further.

The rest of it is all open as usual
