Just reading this from the Guardian today, it seems that every bit of information supplied by Greece is disputed by Egypt and vice versa. Is this a struggle between to governments or is it simply how this kind of investigation works, with the difference being that you get a blow by blow account via the modern media?

Definitely some politics. Egypt wanted the Greek navy to butt out of the search. Given the sensitivty and the impact on Egyptian tourism (down nearly 50% over past years, 12% population work is tourist related) Egypt wants to be seen to be in charge and of course position any "results" as favourably as possible (eg French security lapse ?)
