Mid-Morning Matters with Alan Partridge could easily fill the Moyles 'void'.

Radio 1 is a radio station for low IQer's

I much prefer listening to a heated debate on Jeremy Vines show.

Teetosugars: I'm sad he's leaving radio 1, as I don't listen to it.

At least you knew where he was...

Inspired! 😀

Most of the high IQer's I know can do grammer like 😉

And most of them take great pleasure from stupid/less highbrow things as it goes. IME, it's the people who are a bit insecure about their capabilities who like to make sure they constantly convey how seriously they take things and how only very clever/highbrow things are of any interest to them... YMMV.

slimjom78, yep, around 9 million of then for the breakfast show. However, guessing you were born in 1978 from your user name, you're not exactly target audience (neither am I if it matters).

He was around during my uni days.
Hated him then.
And 99% of the music on that station.

EDIT# not strictly true, Mark'n'Lard made me chuckle back then, and some of the choon's were ok.

It's just much worse today

Bit of irony in that paragraph.

Chris Moyles is a complete NOrBert. I'd much rather listen to Chris Evans in a morning or Silence.

Listening to that fanny banging on about Big Brother...How far he's gone on his treadmill before it fell through his floor in to the flat below.....and his arrogant view of everything.

Still not quite as annoying as Hallamster on hallam fm

I think the funniest thing about the "listen to x station, then you will no longer be a moron" argument is the assumption that by listening to moyles in the morning, that radio 1 is the only station that person will listen to.

I, for one, turn off R1 when music comes on and flick between radio 4, or TMS when it's on in the car, and 6Music and Absolute 90s at home.

At 6'2" I'm too tall to fit in a pigeon hole.

I take that as an insult, but as I probably have a higher IQ than you I put it down to the fact thet you're too thick to know what you're on about

Jesus, about time. This dinosaur has been on the drive time or breakfast show since I was in my early 20's, and thats about 15 years

Since 2004 but don't let facts get in the way of hate.

Think you might owe djglover an apology there 😉

I hadn't listened to Chris Moyles since about 2004, but caught a bit of the breakfast show by accident the other day. In that 120 seconds or so, I mentally filled in - with what I imagine is quite remarkable accuracy - what the previous 8 years of his show has been like.

as TV License holders, and therefore direct contributors to the size of Moyles' bank balance, we are at liberty to say 'I hate the *' and 'the * is crap'.

For a couple of years on Drive Team he was refreshing and funny. Ever since then he has been repetitive, moronic, unfunny and a bellend.
Long may he serve as clown on some drivelly musical which I will never have the displeasure of seeing.

As a public broadcast service, radio 1 is mandated to target a youth audience (one of the reasons moyles is going) should we really be surprised that half the people on here (middle aged I.T contractors, lest we forget don't 'get' it?

Seeing as FM is delivered primarilly to motorists - why don't they use the stations with the best coverage/most bandwidth to entertain the age group who spend the most time in their cars. Kids have the internet, oldies have TV, why can't we have something decent to listen to while we're sat in the car?

6 music should replace radio 3 on FM, without a shadow of a doubt.

I can't get R6 in the car tho.

Maybe I need to buy an Audi like the rest of STW?

I was listening to 6Music today in my Octavia all the way from Chippenham to Burnham-on-Sea and back, with only small areas around the M4/M5 interchange and a little further south where it broke up a bit.
R1/2 used to be worse than that on FM just driving down to Bath!
I just bought a Kenwood head-unit and had it installed by someone who does car installations, it has a USB port on the front to take my iPod, or a 128Gb flash drive.
Cost me around £150, with £50 installation, and it's only using the supplied film antenna that sticks inside the 'screen.
Don't, whatever you do, allow Halfords to install it, I bought the radio from them, but after the balls-up they made of the previous installation, never again.

I like Moyles - there, i've said it.
Listened and laughed to him since '97 when he started on R1. A very Northern sense of humour + healthy dose of antagonism to authority/establishment + ability to speak his mind wrt crap tunes = entertainment in my mind. You can't accuse him of being bland...
Seeing he's spend heaps of holiday time in the States over the recent years it wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to break there - can't see R2 making a good slot for him for a while, Haters relax!

ive got it sorted for about £75 from dabonwheels 🙂
magnetic aerial, little adaptor and bobs yer uncle. as a lot of people on here have said, 6 musics a cracking station. i dont like everything they play, but even the stuff i dont i can listen to safe in the knowledge its 'proper' music, not vaccuous pop drivel by egotists like moyles, mills, cotton etc. this morning i was listening the echo and the bunnymen and the buzzcocks, this afternoon i caught the neat, sex pistols 'satellite' and ty seagal amongst many others. mark radcliffe, marc riley, steve lamacq, lauren laverne, i enjoy all those shows, plus they just had a month of punk which was great!! 🙂

it really does needs to go FM rather than digi only.

your in the right ball park, also reason greg james & mills switched shows.

they need to appeal to the kid more than they are doing, capital & kiss are more popular with the kids, thats the next generation of listeners!

The thing is if all you lot actually liked him he wouldn't be doing his job properly. What 15 to 29 year old wants to listen to the same thing as a load of boring IT middle managers. His allure is enhanced by all the haters. Ironic!

Only he isn't doing well enough as the average age of an R1 listener had risen to 32, not enough haters, hence why he had to go. I suspect the average age of the breakfast show was higher as well.

Well I for one will be very sorry to see him go. I tend to listen from 0630 until about 0900 and really enjoy it. A lot of the music isn't to my taste but I put up with because the stuff in between cheers me up in the morning and gets me to work in a happy mood which unfortunately evaporates once I walk though the front door!! I often listen on 'listen again' at the weekend to catch up with stuff I have missed. I'm very glad that Scott Mills hasn't got the job, but I haven't heard enough of Grimmy to judge whether I will stick with Radio 1 or move elsewhere. Still, as I am 57 I shouldn't be listening anyway...or so I am told.

VeryI love Chris moyles. He has been with me since I was 15. I don't know how I will cope. I met him at his Cambridge gig this year and he was lovely. He made time to come and speak to me, despite the fact he was busy presenting.

I just be the devil as I love Chris and have a dab radio in my bmw

Thank fudge for that. The first 45 mins in the morning is enough to make we want to drive to London and beat his head with a large spanner. R2 is too slow paced (although better than Moyles), I need 3 different commercial stations to get me to work due to distance and I can't rip factory fit head units out of the cars I drive to fit digital. Listens to the bloke who's taking over this evening and he seemed alright. Can't be worse!

I hold Chris Moyles personally responsible for the death of music radio

Only fitting that an acolyte, a child of the tyranny he put into place, takes over to continue his misdeeds. A child who has known no other way but the regime of his predecessor, and so has had his mind soiled by the unpunished crimes. The Kim-Jong Un of breakfast radio.

😉

Grimshaw is a knob . Had the misfortune of turning him off at night in the garage as he just talks pish "its like a radioshow only worse " was his catchphrase - how apt !

You, enough to read and post anyways.

There is no conclusive evidence to prove this to be true.

Like Konastoner I am filled with incredulity that there should not only be a thread concerning the departure of Moyles from Radio 1, but that it should actually run into 4 pages.

The consequence of this bemused amazement is that I am irresistibly drawn to the thread, as I try to make sense of the apparent appeal of tabloid-type celebrity tittle tattle and pointless gossip - an issue which btw has always fascinated me.

My incredulity and fascination is further compounded by the fact that STW is the home of arrogant and judgmental middle-class wallahs, who are usually so quick to ridicule those which they perceive to have "average" intellect. Yep, truly fascinating 🙂

Bravo bravohotelier
Chris Moyles doing the R1 breakfast show is like someone from STW doing the R1 breakfast show. Wholly inappropriate for a yoof station.

No that's Matt Edmonson, the show that starts with the Attenbrouh voiceover

"Hello, good evening, A formal appology from the BBC, due to XXXXXX (eg an error in the BBC canteen cashless system) you are about to endure the Matt Edmonson show, you more than likely have no idea who he is, but it would be worse, you could be YYYYYYY (argueing about celebrities on a cycling forum)"

Grimshaw's tag line on the adverts for his show is "A completely new idea for radio, music AND talking".

There's an interview on the BBC site with Ben Cooper (head of Radio 1) and he makes the point that the average Radio 1 listener is 32, it's remit is 15-29 and that's mandated by the BBC trust. So in fact he has to dum it down even further. The annoying thing is I really liked Moyles and the nightime stuff (Zane, Nick, Annie, In new DJ's, etc) and they're probably at the grownup end of the spectrum.

Where does this leave the 20 somethings who don't want to listen to Heart/Radio2 or the mid 30's indie guitar w*** fest that is 6 miusic?

Planet Rock, Real Radio XS, the Absolute family of stations, keeps me going.
