So, it'll be about 2018 before he turns up on Radio 2?

I'm sad he's leaving radio 1, as I don't listen to it.

At least you knew where he was...

I dont mind him, he is an ego maniac but the others seem to rein him in a bit. Cant stand Chris Evans so no idea what I will be listening to when he is replaced.

I find the first 30mins or so of Moyles quite a good listen, will be a shame if he does go.

So is it just rumour or actually in black and white some where?

Judging by the reaction to him, he must be good at his job. Good luck to him.

Quite like listening to him on my morning commute, although it is only 15 minutes. I bet comedy Dave is bricking it. Wonder what he's off to do next, all his TV stuff is dire.

I thought it was a wind up... But not to so.

Not a fan of Chris Evans either so no idea what I'll be listening to either, can't stand Radio 1 after Moyles show.
Normally switch it to Talksport.. Maybe have to listen to Brazil as of September.

Agree with Mills, not a fan. I don't want a lot of music in the morning, I want chat and a laugh.

I agree completely with Teetosugars. As someone who'd rather hack my own ears off with a blunt Stanley knife than listen to one syllable spew forth from the mouth of that moron, this is deeply disturbing news.

When he was on radio 1 I was as likely to encounter him in my daily life as I was a mermaid riding a unicorn.

Now I live in fear of the thoughts going through the mind of the BBC management meeting that concluded that putting George Lamb on 6 music would be a great idea 😯

djglover - yep I saw his smug, self satisfied vizog appear on the F1 coverage at the weekend and thought he looked a bit long in the tooth to be 'down wid da kidz'.

Won't make a jot of difference to me though... I doubt he'll pop up on 6 as AIUI he spends more time talking (about himself) than actually playing music.

Quite like the show these days.

When he first started he was an obnoxious twunt and I couldn't abide him. Once he'd worked out that he could put a show together without abusing everyone else around him, it turned into quite an entertaining programme.

It'll be interesting to see who replaces him. They should poach Radcliffe back from R2. (-:

It's all about 6 music TBH. It can`t come onto main stream radio quick enough(FM).
Moyles was OK for a while but nowadays the combination of the same old tired jokes and the atrocious music drives me insane. Needless to say I don`t listen to him. Mills is so much worse though.

King Herrod in Jesus Christ Superstar the musical apparently!

I reckon moyles will be on capital at some point

Much as he could probably name his price I don't think it would work so well if he had to do adverts, part of his appeal is that he can talk for almost an hour straight, I don't think that would transfer to the talk for 30 seconds, play arecord, 3 min of adverts, repeat format.

Since 2004 but don't let facts get in the way of hate.

I don't mind him and can see why people don't like him but it's grow stale over now so yeah probably time he moved on.

before you all start i have my rose tinted specs on, im more of a radio 2 man these days, radio 1 hurts my ears.

anyway moyles gave me a few chuckles if im being honest in the early years but then climbed up inside his own a**se - you couldnt beat chris evans in my eyes.

Gonna miss Chris in the mornings. Has been part of my routine for 8 years and I can't stand R2 or commercial radio. Chris and Dave should just start a daily podcast. Charge £1 a month to subscribe and if they get 10% of the listeners they get today they would be minted.

Grimshaw taking over may be a good guess.

If it is that cretin Mills then I may have to cut my ears off. Would be a strange move from the beeb though as he is just as old as Moyles.

I enjoy CM and Scott Mills's shows which I'm well aware makes me somewhat of a minority as a 37 1/2 year old 😉

My wife likes them too as it goes. She's not quite as old as me though...

Grimmy is far more entertaining and affable than Greg James. I can see no other reason that they'd have left him on a late night show whilst James and Cotton get plum daytime slots unless they are saving him for the breakfast show...

As for Mills, he's on a downward curve, I doubt they'd have moved him from drive time to the early afternoon graveyard shift if they had big plans for him. They've always been battling to get younger DJs with enough experience to front the big shows.

It is a shame as i like him.

The replacement will be announced at 10.30. Greg James has just moved to drive, so would he move again to Breakfast? I hope Grimshaw gets it.

Just announced, it is Grimshaw:

T4 presenter Nick Grimshaw will replace Chris Moyles as the host of the Radio 1 breakfast show later this year.

Grimshaw is set to be unveiled as the new host of the flagship programme in a Radio 1 Newsbeat bulletin at 10.30am on Wednesday morning. The length and value of his deal is not yet known.

He replaces Moyles, who announced his departure live on air today and will step down in September after more than eight years on the breakfast shift.

Grimshaw has beaten the widely-tipped Greg James to the post. The latter was only recently installed as the new drive time DJ, replacing Scott Mills.

Grimshaw joined Radio 1 in 2005, fronting its youth strand Switch and currently presents a two hour late night show from Monday to Thursday which offers “future pop with a night-time twist”.

A second Radio 1 show sees him co-hosting the Sunday evening 10pm to midnight slot alongside Annie Mac.

The Oldham-born 28 year-old also presents for Channel 4 as a regular on its youth strand T4 and host of The Album Chart Show and live fashion magazine series Style The Nation in June.

Grimshaw’s appointment chimes with Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper’s mission to attract more listeners under the age of 30 to the station.

Wow, the only person worse than Grimshaw on Radio 1 is Huw Stephens. Well its goodbye to R1 for me, nothing but utter shite, apart from Moyles these days. I can cope with Mills, but the rest are just turgid.

Absolute Radio it is, unless Moyles gets a show on R2. This is the worst news since Mark + Lard left.

It was only a matter of time before Moyles left after his ill considered outburst about his salary being paid late and how he was being taken advantage of etc. Considering he was being paid 1M quid a year and a lot of his listeners were in fear of their livelihoods and homes, it seemed in poor taste at best and at worst suicidally out of touch with the country.

I never liked him though so perhaps I'm just viewing that through a veneer of dislike. Glad he's going. Now if they can just finish off Scott Mills, Ferne Cotton and the concept of a daytime playlist I might listen to Radio 1 during the day.

Bizarrely they have mostly good music late nights etc so they do have it in them to pick good DJs.

Did you listen o the 'rant' or just read about it? And he wasn't/isn't paid £1m a year.

What will Moyles et al be doing now then?

I always enjoyed his shows apart from some of the terrible 'music' he is made to play.

It would be good if he gets drivetime on R2 with Evans still on breakfast. Problem with R2 is that a lot of the music is just as bad as some of the R1 music. I'm too young for R2 but too old for R1. What's a man supposed to do?

Yeah Grimmy's the camp northern one. I used to think he was an idiot but after listening to his evening shows a bit more I think he'll be really good, although how he'll change his partying lifestyle for a breakfast regime will be fun to hear in the mornings.

I usually enjoy listening to Moyles' breakfast show, mostly due to the banter amongst the 'team' which is generally ok and can be amusing.

Don't like Scott Mills as a solo presenter, although his drive time show was entertaining due to the interaction with producer Becky.

Greg James - yawn. thank goodness he's not got the breakfast 'gig'.

Nick Grimshaw - don't think I've heard him before ... can't be worse than Greg James though, can he?

No idea if what I've heard is original or not but since it doesn't really matter to me in terms of whether I enjoy his show or not, why would I care?

I think of all of the options, Grimmy is probably the one who will fit best. Like almightydutch, I used to think he was annoying, but his stand in shows for Scott Mills and Greg James are much better than their normal hosts. I was dreading they would move Greg James to the breakfast show which would be utterly horiffic, never heard someone so wet on the radio before.

Shame Moyles is going though - unashamedly enjoyed the last 8 years (and his afternoon show before that). Hopefully he'll get another show. If he got something that can be a bit less 'youth focused' then I reckon it could be a really good listen.

Used to listen to pretty much his entire show when I was driving a lot in the mornings. On more than one occasion he had me laughing so hard I had to pull over to avoid crashing. Music put me off in the end though.

TBH I'd rather him than Chris Evans.

For everybody stating they are too old for R1 and too young for R2 - 6 Music is were it's at! It's like R1 for grown ups!

To everyone who says they haven't listend to radio one since XXXX event. To anyone under the age of 30 you sound like you're just saying "I've not been 29 since I turned 30" or "I've not been cool since flares went out of fassion the first time round".

I agree about Ferne and Mills though, can't listen to them for more than 5 minutes. Greg James is wven worse, when he inherited Mills' show he seemt to just take the existing features, re-name them and do them in a compeltley un-funny way.

Grimmy I actualy find really funny though. Not sure how he'll cope with a daytime playlist, he's not been one to mince his words when filling in the daytime and playing 'playlist' stuff.

For everybody stating they are too old for R1 and too young for R2 - 6 Music is were it's at! It's like R1 for grown ups!

I tried it, but there's only so much Coldplay, nora Jones, U2 and Snowpatrol I can listen to before deciding that even Ferne Cottons inane drivvel is better.

Yeah, agree with this - fingers crossed he'll be allowed to bring in some of the stuff he would usually play on his evening show. They let Zane Lowe do it when he covered for Moyles...although that was usually only for a week maximum. Thinking about it more, Grimmy should be really good for the show. He has a more 'adult' sense of humour like Moyles did, rather than the 'try and be zany for the kids' Greg James or 'rely on massively irritating catchphrases' Mills. Just seems a bit more like a normal bloke on the radio - which is a good thing.

Think this is the main reason I liked Moyles' show - I prefer presenters who aren't all serious and 'into' the music, and just seem to play it cos they have to ... actually, I don't listen to Radio for the music, just the banter amongst the presenter/production team/whoever.

Also like Mike Toolan on Key 103's breakfast show in Manchester. Good humour & banter with whats-her-name (Chelsea?) the traffic person (?).

Again, the music is mostly an interference.

I quite liked Moyles when he was on the early breakfast but that was a long time ago.

I rarely drive anywhere in the mornings so only listen to him occasionally when I can't be arsed to plug in my iphone. Can't stand Scott Mills, however this happened on his show

for which I may allow him a sliver of forgiveness

Thankfully somebody has seen the light and booted moyles off the radio, a totally boring idividual, with all his mates backing him up and laughing at his purile sexist and homophobic jokes, having to listen to his programe was like watching the skin form on a rice pudding, only thing is you can eat the rice pudding without it making you sick.

As for Grimie, at least you can understand him and he is from the north, and not pretentious or so full of himself.

Moyles is going to be Herod in the new Jesus musical, and we all know what Herod did.

Really?? That sounds more R2 than 6 Music. Main playlist at the moment is Vaccines, Paul Weller, Richard Hawley, The Cribbs, & Jack White among others. Never heard Nora Jones played & the others only come up occasionally.

Oh come on with the homophobic accusation! Considering one of the key members of his team is VERY openly gay, there is literally no way the man is homophobic! I could possibly give you sexist, but surely you can see its as part of the 'character' and is very very very rarely genuinely offensive.

the hatred towards moyles always makes me chuckle a bit, its a bit like me not understanding pokemon, i'm too old for it, i'm not pokemons demographic, but at least i've got the self-awareness to know tis not aimed at me so i dont find myself getting all angry at it like people do with moyles.

He's part of the reason i stopped listening to Radio-1 in the morning, his early breakfast show in '97 was good (but then i was 19-20 yrs old)....once he moved to the regular breakfast show and proclaimed himself the 'saviour of Radio-1' his ego spiralled out of control and it became boring very quickly.

Grimshaw is terrible, trying so hard to be achingly cool....another in the mould of Ferne Cotton and Edith Bowman.

I actually like Sara Cox when she guest presents, she's happy to mock herself (and the awful daytime playlist) and seems genuinely weird without trying too hard, i can happily listen to her wittering on and chuckle to myself without getting too angry about the awful music.

I tend to listen to Absolute (formerly Virgin) in the daytime now, great music from the 60s onwards, always rock/band orientated so it wont appeal to everybody but it means i dont have to listen to any dubstep or have my ears offended by any shite from Tulisa or her ilk.

Mark and Lard were brilliant, shame Radio-1's management cater for the lowest common denominator and gave them the boot.

Its not an age thing, i can happily listen to the breakfast show on KISS-100 and not want to break my radio....i dont always like the music but the hosts are funny without being ego maniacs....i just find Moyles to be like the loud annoying person at a party i would try to move away from.

Chris Moyles almost single handedly turned me away from Radio altogether. Fortunately, I discovered 6music and all was well in the world once more. I couldn't stand his self-centred, aggresive, obnoxious style. It just wasn't pleasant.

I listen to the Grimmy / Annie Mac show on a Sunday night and really quite like their style; the music is good too. The only irritation is with the name dropping - "I was at such-a-bodies back stage party the other day" etc, etc. But mleh, who cares.

Morning listening is Radio 2. I can tolerate Evans and the music he plays isn't too bad. He has a reasonable mix of talk/music. Sean Keaveney (SP?) on 6 get's on my paps - it's the only show on there that does.

Grimmy is OK at times although is either thick or plays a moron convincingly. Greg James is basically Moyles-lite, afraid of BBC management and doesn't do anything remotely controversial/edgy. Mills is OK to and innuendo bingo and the old feature he did getting two take-away food places conferenced together are brilliant, if juvenile, entertainment :p For sure though R1 isn't the best station to listen to if you want lots of music...

mark and lard were brilliant. Before they got the breakfast gig. That was a really, really terrible idea and was never going to end well.

+1 for Sarah Cox, most of the rest seem like they're trying far to hard to conform to an expectation of a "persona" - Cox comes across as being who she is.

Although, for me, Radio 1 will never be able to match the heights of broadcasting of the days of "ooo" Gary Davies. Now there was broadcasting..

Irrelevant of your opinions on the guys, he brought a new high of listeners to Radio 1 and has lasted longer in the morning show than anyone else. Those things alone deserve credit.

It's also worth pointing out that Moyles may not have done a music based show but from what I understand, he is a real music fan, just maybe not a playlist fan. He's also a true radio geek, Zane Lowe said recently that no one else on Radio 1 can drive the desk as well as Moyles can.

He may not be to your taste but you can't say wasn't good at his job.

I'm sad he's leaving radio 1, as I don't listen to it.

At least you knew where he was...

ha ha, drivel drivel blah blah (repeat ad infinitum) followed by the same 6 songs that all sound like one song, this modern music, it all sounds the same....

get a digital radio and listen to 6 music

As a public broadcast service, radio 1 is mandated to target a youth audience (one of the reasons moyles is going) should we really be surprised that half the people on here (middle aged I.T contractors, lest we forget 🙂 don't 'get' it?

slimjom78, yep, around 9 million of then for the breakfast show. However, guessing you were born in 1978 from your user name, you're not exactly target audience (neither am I if it matters).

I very rarely listen to anything else, for 2 reasons

Can't stand adverts in commercial radio
It's the only station on FM that regularly plays anything NEW, AFAIK

🙂

EDIT

I was born in 1970.................................................
