Exchanged contracts today on our first house! 🙂 Currently living in Swinton but moving to Birch Vale just outside Hayfield. Got to wait until August until we actually complete as the seller is emigrating, but it will be worth the wait. Rather than the 20 minutes drive to Rivington, I will have the awesomeness of the Peaks to explore 🙂
Time for another beer 🙂
Which Peaks are these of which you speak?
Good for you mate, enjoy them peaks !
Nice. Some ace riding from your door, what more can you want? 🙂
Shit pubs though

Just down the road is the Waltzing Weasel which is nice enough and the ones in Hayfield are good.
Birch Vale doesn't have much of anything really - nearest shops are New Mills. On the other hand, you're right next to the Sett Valley Trail, easy access to Rowarth, Chinley, Hayfield and New Mills.
Thanks.
We were biking around Hayfield back in February when we thought it would be a pretty nice place to live, 2 weeks later the house came on the market and we realised we had cycled right past the door. Up until then we were really struggling to find a location we liked.
Are there any Hayfield/Birch Vale/New Mills biking clubs?
The Hayfield Hub go out for Wednesday night rides from Hayfield but it's been years since I went on one due to a change in work patterns meaning I'm busy most Wednesdays.
There are fairly regular forum rides from Roman Lakes, Marple.
I know the Bogtrotters ride round this way on occasions. Other than that, there's a fair few forum regulars around these parts:
I'm in New Mills, nbt in Marple, sambob lives over towards Whaley Bridge, richpips is in Hayfield and BadlyWiredDog lives over in Glossop.

There's the Hayfield Hub - see Facebook somewhere - which seems to be mostly composed of injured fell runners and ride every Wednesday night from Hayfield plus a whole load of disorganised randoms 🙂
You shouldn't have any problem finding folk to ride with locally.
Shout once you've moved in, I'm sure someone'll organise a welcome to Royston Vasey introductory ride and as James (Crazylegs says) there's a fair scattering of local riders on here and not.
We usually ride from Marple mid week (with a very chilled out friendly bunch). Couple of hours riding and then a pub stop.
Weekends are usually longer rides, maybe with the odd away day.
As above let us know when you've moved.
Manchester mountain bikers!! On meetup.com
Usually 4or5 or more rides a week.
Still haven't made it out with the Marple lot yet
