We have sold our mission speakers and marantz home cinema amp from 2003 due to lack of use and plus the fact it takes up a lot of room.

looking at music options now and Im not sure what to go for or look at.

We listen to a lot of music through a cheap old roberts DAB so would need something that has DAB to replace that. I also want to plug my play station into it for movies etc.

Im not after massive speakers but want something that sounds good??

Ive seen this on Richer sounds site...........

http://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/mini-hi-fi-system-deals/pah011229

is it any good or can I do better for the money ??

cheers

Steve

I think Denon has a good rep generally, you do lose bass with small speakers though.

I presume you're not doing AV with this set up??

Nope not considering AV in this house as the lounge isnt big enough.

although it will be plugged into a ps3 for music and games.

With AV amps there seems to be a big jump in price to include DAB whilst everything else include DNLA, AirPlay, Internet radio. I have a Denon and highly recommend it although mine doesn't have DAB. Onkyo are pretty good too.

Can't comment on that amp but the speakers are excellent. Highly rated by What HiFi etc. No doubt the brand snobs will tell you different but with the speakers taking up 2/3 of that package deal you can't go wrong.

I have that particular Denon unit and it is very nice sounding for what it is. In our case it is mostly for playing the odd CD (or it was before the other system ended up in the same room) and for providing enhanced sound for the small LCD TV in the room. I listened to a few speaker options and ended up with the Monitor Audio BX1. I wasn't that impressed with the Q Accoustics, personally. Depends also on what sort of sound you want out of the system. The MA speakers do a pretty good job but they are small speakers and so you do lose the depth you get from larger speakers. For me it was a close ruin thing between the MA and the Dali. However, I was only ever getting small speakers. If this was going to be my main listening system I would get bigger speakers. And you need to go and listen to see how they all sound. If you are going to Richer Sounds then it may be worth auditioning something like the Wharfedale's or bigger Dali's. Again, your mileage may vary and you may like the QA sound.

Thanks for the replies.

I had a marantz home cinema amp and a pair of floor standing mission m33i speakers which could go low enough to rattle hell!!

I had to.get rid as the house we are moving to has a small front room so no room for.the speakers.

Is that denon future proof enough or should I be looking at something with a hdmi input?
