You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Currently living in South Glos and looking to move down a couple of miles down the road to an area which is within either the Bristol or Bath NHS zones.
I have my first appointment next week with an NHS assessment team, with a meeting with a consultant to follow afterwards. I've been waiting 4 months for the appointment and am concerned that if I try to change my address that I'll be kicked out of the system and have to start from scratch. The only information on the teams site is that I have to be living in South Glos to access the service.
Had a google but couldn't find anything conclusive. Anyone have any knowledge on the topic?
mail redirect when you move.
Simple answer is “it depends”...
Most dealings with big hospitals (acute trusts) are not affected by where you live or which ccg your GP is under. We have patients in three different catchment areas and refer to at least 6 different area’s hospitals.
The area where it gets tricky is if the service you are being referred to is commissioned on a strict geographical or ccg basis. It’s usually mental health services that are configured this way. So I can’t refer my patients with one postcode to the mental health services of the other postcode.
Also many ccgs will have local arrangements for things like orthopaedics where there is a triage system involving physio before you get to see a surgeon. These will be different in different areas.
Having said that if you are already in the system and waiting an appointment you should not have to be rereferred by your new GP. I’d be pee’ed off if I had to do this.
In short. Turn up to your appointment and then once you are on their books it “shouldn’t” matter.
In a word. No.
I was due for surgery on my feet and had to postpone it as I was moving house. We moved from Hampshire to Sheffield. I asked if I could get the op done in Sheffield but I would have had to start the whole diagnosis process from scratch as it would have been a different consultant etc.
Can I still have it done here I asked?
Yes. You’re on our waiting list. No problem. I let them know when I was ready and 6 weeks later I had it done
AFAIK hospitals don’t care where you live!
