People who have a wireless thermostat, do you take it with you when your move?

I'm going to need someone to uninstall it, then replace with a standard cheap one thermostat. Then get it installed at the new place. Wondering if it's cheaper to just get a new one installed.

I think the Nest is £250 for a new one with installation.

I wouldnt bother, by the time you've paid someone to remove it and then re-install it you may as well just have a new one fitted.

Especially when you factor in you have to leave the old house with some form of thermostat so would have to buy that as well if you hadn't kept the original one.

Did you used to pay people to wire up plugs for you as well? It's a very simple task - very basic stuff.

I assume you'll be replacing the controller with the old one. Or did the house price includes fixtures and fittings - it should be on a purchase list, surely?

I'd just leave it.

Light bulbs don't cost £250, last I checked.

I'd definitely be taking it if it were me. You could probably swap it for a regular one in about 15 minutes.

Thanks for the info!

I have the original thermostat but I think it maybe easier to get a new one installed.

In 35 years, I've never needed to wire a plug or pay someone to do so 🙂

Remember to reset the config if leaving it, it asks a few questions on the install which would be nice to leave for the new owners for when they come to set it up again (can see it on the thermostat itself in the settings page somewhere). Otherwise, if they changed the WiFi settings on it it would connect into your account (although that could be fun if you want to change the temps for them...)

If you didn't mention it in the particulars then you might find a bill winging your way.

Even a TV that's wall mounted falls under that these days.

Hive say take the hub but leave the rest. https://www.hivehome.com/support/Help_Using_Hive/HUH_General/If-I-buy-Hive-products-and-then-move-home-what-should-I-do

The thermostat works without the hub (just not internet connected). The hub contains your account.

if you price up a whole house with LED bulbs you maybe surprised how close to £250 it can be

Having just Black Fridayed a load of Philips Hue, I did wonder about the accuracy of that comment when I wrote it...

If I ever move I'll be taking my Nest thermostat, Philips Hue light setup and Alexa with me. I'll be leaving the hidden cameras though.

So long as you make that clear in your particulars then you can take what ever you want really.

If you don't - your wide open.

I'd take everything, replacing back the original TRV heads and installing a cheap thermostat, but then Evohome is considerably more than £250 and something I def don't want to buy again.
