FiL is in a flat and has 7 month old Sky TV contract, no broadband or telephone just the TV.

I had a look at the Sky website but it's not clear what the situation regarding a new dish with an existing contract.

Do you pay for a new installation at the new property?

If so, how much?

I know a very good local installer who could do it but I think the cost would be around £150. Is Sky cheaper?

From memory they do not charge for a new install at a new house assuming you are still within a contract. I am pretty certain we didn't or if we did it was a notional £40 or something.

Moving house to Sky. You know it will be dark, rainy, full of midges, tourists and miles from anywhere don't you?

Can't remember what it costs but it's really reasonable. Sky will be cheaper than paying an indie to do it.

(does anyone know how much they actually pay their installers? I just had my ancient Sky+ box swapped for a Sky Q and the guy who turned up was great. Seemed to have ample time to do the job properly, added a new switch that converts the output of he existing distribution switch to skyQ compatible. had an multi-plug lead so it could be powered. Doesn't seem like they're on either too many jobs per day or a fixed rate per job.

Pretty sure they do it for free. I remember I gave away the one I had in a rented place on Freecycle. Would've tried to get something for it if it had cost me.

What about moving from a house with a dish but use Freesat? Take the dish?
