I know this has been discussed before, but a search seems to show its been a while, so here goes.
Just been advised by Sky that they want yet more money, and I'm considering moving to BTtv for a while.
We watch mainly "terrestrial" channels, we like dramas, so sky Atlantic features a bit, don't have sport, but have the entertainment package (probably telling that I don't really know what that gives me).
Considerations:
Stop giving money to Murdoch; BT appears to be much cheaper, with access to the stuff we watch for £20 per month (we already have BT landline and broadband) ; concerns that my sisters BT used to freeze occasionally.
Anything else I should think about, before I try a BT contract to see if it works out?
Ug, been there, done that, returned to Sky as quickly as we could on the basis that we had been mis-sold the BT package.
The box is a hateful thing compared to the Sky box, seems to require a dozen extra menu steps to find anything.
We had taken all the terrestrial stuff for granted until we realised it DOESN'T come as standard with BT unless you have an aerial, the salesperson conveniently forgot to tell us that.
The customer service is woeful as well, they agreed (eventually, pulling teeth would have been quicker and more painless) to cancel our package free of charge as we had been mis-sold, but they have since charged us cancellation fees (a different amount every time...) necessitating half an hour on the phone every time to get it sorted. I fully expect them to try again...
Better the devil you know! (If it's any comfort, I don't think Murdoch owns Sky any more?)
Sky is better than BTtv without a doubt...but you don't half pay for it. I ditched Sky a couple of years ago for BTtv when I realised just how much I want paying for Sky and how much it had escalated in price...and I didn't have a big package. Spoke to BT and they gave me a deal for a year and extended it when I threatened to leave after the first year, so not paid that much for the TV package over the last 2 years. Though it's not as good as Sky,..it's not that bad. Depends what you want to watch. However the deal is coming to an end this month and I'm thinking of ditching altogether as we really don't watch that much TV that you can't get on Freeview or Freesat with all the other viewing being on Netflix, Prime and YouTube. so BT (or Sky) not really adding any value for or viewing pleasure...and I'm in no mood to have more temptation to watch even more TV...hard enough to tear the kids away from the TV as it is.
If I were you I'd ditch Sky then see how you get on with a combination of Freesat/view and Netflix/Prime/YouTube/AppleTV.
You aren’t giving money to Murdoch, he no longer owns Sky
Just saying...
Oh, I forgot about the hateful interface that my sister/BiL had.
I think I'm going to cancel Sky, not bother with anything to replace it, and see how we get on with just BBC/itv for a while..
Thanks for your input, all
