So the phone line enters the house on the side after tracking along the front of the house externally. The cable then it's trailing through the hall into the living room for the router.
The box inside has come away from the wall so is a sensible time to relocate it.
We don't use a landline so this is exclusively for the internet.
How do we go about getting it moved? DIY job?
DIY job?
Yep.
One of those phone wire connector pushy tool thingummies makes it much easier. I daresay it has a real name.
Though see here: https://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/moving-my-bt-master-socket-diy
Edit: IDC insertion tool. Cheap plastic one'll do fine for a one-off job.
I daresay it has a real name.
Also called a punch down tool
Yeah I did the same recently. Piece of cake. There's only two wires actually connected.
Is fibre to the property available to you?
My street recently got done.. fed from telegraph pole.
This made the BT master socket totally redundant, openreach come round and drill a hole in your wall and fit a new fibre box thingy (MODEM?) which you plug your router into.
I used an existing hole in the wall as it was just better for me, but I think standard practice is they drill a new hole...as the open reach guy wanted to do that initially until I persuaded him otherwise...so you could save yourself a job if you are thinking of going fiber any time soon.

Some newer master sockets don't even require the punchdown tool. They're self crimping.
