We have this on the wall in our hall

It's in an annoying position

We'd like to use the wall space to put some pictures up. I'd like to either move the sensor (probably not possible as it's wired) or replace it. Potentially I'd replace the whole thermostat and timer system with a smart one. The current thermostat/timer is in the kitchen and next to the boiler. This does the heating and water.

What options do I have?

Simplest (and probably cheapest) option is to move the existing remote sensor. It's in that position because they're not supposed to be too near to the opening side of a door or window and should be about 5' up a wall. It'll need the cable moving as well to get a vertical drop to the unit, which could be messy

If you want to replace the whole thermostat then many (all?) modern versions can offset the site temperature to better reflect the "normal" temperature in the house

Just too late to edit the post ^^, you could (I think) lower the position to 1m above floor level if this helps

I think moving the existing sensor will get messy there's no easy way into the wall or into the ceiling from above

Do thermostats exist where the remote temperature sensor is wireless? I think the temperature sensor needs to be in the hallway somewhere as the radiators in there don't have thermostatic valves. All other rooms have them (bar the landing above).

That might be doable, but I think then stands more chance of being knocked and damaged

Yes sure our new thermostat is wireless I didn't really look into it but expect this is pretty standard these days. It also fully controls the system (timer, over-ride, holiday mode etc). Boiler has a receiver panel. We've not actually fixed our thermostat yet, it is sitting in a reasonable place in the middle of the room and entirely mobile.

Yes there are lots of wireless thermostats. We have Siemens one which is battery operated with a receiver unit wired into the boiler. Wasn't hard to wire in from memorary. You put the thermostat wherever you want, puts his on a little stand. Much better than the wired unut it replaced.

Thus is probably the newer version of ours.

Just bang a nest in. (Tado/hive other versions are available)

base station goes where your controller is now and then you either fit the best where your old stat is or you get a little stand for it and put it somewhere more suitable. I’ll give it it’s due, so much easier to use and it’s definitely saving money with its smart settings. I can even now shout at the Alexa thing to control it....

Just returned to this thread after researching then buying a Hive on Amazon (includes a free Echo Dot too). The install should be ok, although we do have zoned heating. It's not really that zoned though, the master bedroom is separate because it's on the second floor and due to building regs has to have it's own controller. I have assumed that this will all still work fine.....

EDIT: I will say there's more than picture hanging driving the smart thermostat purchase. The currently installed one is pretty tricky to use and sometimes the buttons stick.

You’ll need a second hive (multizone so not the full system) then I think?
