Im planning a trip from Seattle to LA and wanting to stop in various mountain biking hot spots through Washington Oregon and california. Has anyone got any experience of Mtbing in these states?
Any good general cross country riding not DH or uplift but 'proper' riding.
Where shall i go???
Thanks
Eddie, you are a lucky guy.
Right, first of all get yourself on MTBR forums. Most states have a sub forum, California has specific north and south Cali listings. People on there have been very helpful when looking to plan a trip in the past (North Carolina, Tahoe in California).
I think there is a lot of choice of natural riding in Oregon and Washington and I know there is some riding just to the east of Seattle - I have no experience of Washington St or Oregon, but there have been articles in 'Bike', (which seems to have a lot of articles from the pacific northwest).
I have ridden at Tahoe and it is amazing - lots of 6,000 ft + riding with some amazing views, but as importantly dusty trails with lovely grippy rock. There is a trail map for Tahoe, which is an absolute must, as it highlights lots of trail choices. Lots of riding can be self supported, but some have the option of a shuttle to the trail head, depending upon season.
There is also Donnieville to the north of there and lots of riding just outside San Francisco.

Repack Rider
Im unsure of where we're going as yet, i just know i want to drive from vancouver to LA and sample as much mountain biking and surfing as possible. But Washington, Oregon and northern Cali Look quite big and i didn't want to miss a load of good riding by just driving through it.
Im aiming for July and August next year.
Jealous.
If you are near Bend, speak to Don Leet at Sunnyside Sports. There are endless sing track trails nearby.
Also have a look at Oakridge, they have some way marked trails. Ask at Willamette Mountain Merchantile. Waldo Lake, the Mackenzie River Trail and the Umpqua River trails are all worth riding.
Where is Bend? Mr Mcmooter?
Sorry for the hijack.
Repack Rider, we are planning on doing Repack Road tomorrow. Is the easiest way in terms of navigation, Bolinas and then Pine Mountain Truck Road?
Eddie, Bend is in Oregon. When I was looking, it sounded like there might be some good stuff in Ashland, Oregon, but we never actually got there, so don't know. We ended up doing the Pacific Coast Highway until we got fed up of headwinds and tarmac bashing on mtb tyres, so hired a car and went straight to San Francisco. The only off road we've done so far is China Camp in Marin, but took a wrong turn and ended up off the singletrack, but the singletrack we did ride was good. Although I'm not into gnarly riding, so it might not appeal to all.
