Something along the lines of Terra Novas Voyager line, what's out there at the minute?

Feel free to point me in the direction of threads or handy reviews online, my googlefu is weak this morning.

It'll be like used for anything from car camping/bike touring in Norfolk to cairngorm wild camping. 4 season (UK) capable.

I had a voyager, you are pushing for 2 people plus some space in that. Id think of it as a spacious 1 person tent.

Id go for the tn ultra quasar, or normal quasar.

Depends how much money you want to spend but the hillebergs are also good, some good deals to be had on ebay sometimes. Although quite long, the nallo 2gt is a good 4 season tent and quite light at 2.8kg.

Nallo GT 3? Helsport would probably be good as well.

I have an old Quasar that did a bit of everything. Pretty heavy but has room for two and kit. The older I get though, the more reluctant I am to share a tent!

I've been pleased with my Alpkit Kangri. The only downside is pitching inner first, which is tricky if it's raining.

Terra nova voyager xl here

Great for two up cycle touring, plenty of space for gear up front and well built for Scottish weather!

Only thing is when we did two weeks in it we got a bit sick of not being able to stand up properly but that's the same with any mountain tent!

Great tent, even better if you use trekking poles to pitch it.

You know it's really two tents you need. Regardless of your intentions you'll end up taking loads of stuff when you have the car.

I've got an Ultra Quasar which is great. Totally bomproof altitude-proven expensive overkill. My mate has a Wild Country Duolite, these are now out of production but if you can find one, they're amazing value, rugged, not too heavy and have vast amounts of space.

Everyone has subtly different requirements from a tent and is willing to compromise on different things.

I recently bit the bullet and bought a Nallo 2 as it best met our requirements. MSR are also worth a look.

It might be worth looking at a light 3 man tent to get extra space if you need that.

On my own experience avoid Lightwave - we got one because it looked like a good deal and it was absolutely awful, leaked like a sieve, impossible to pitch right and falling apart by the end of a 3 week bike tour. Swiftly returned.

I agree the Trango is an excellent tent - especially the 4 season and Cairngorm aspects, but I would have thought a bit heavy for general backpacking.

Terra Nova Voyager XL had one for couple of years it's brilliant the porch is just great for storing wet gear so you don't get your sleeping kit wet I have even cooked in the porch on crappy wet days ! The tent packs down really small .... Field And Trek do good deals on them plus although the latest offer has just ended quite often have 20% off the sale price

I think the Trango and Quasar will both be too heavy. The winter Cairngorms aspect, there'll be strategic pitching going on. No, oh look 70mph winds lets pitch up top.

Tbh, I'm actually quite impressed by some of the really light tents that are kicking about these days, at least when in comes to 'claimed' size and weight.

This is causing quite a bit of umming and erring about exactly what I'm after.

The extra space requirement was more for general(car) camping rather than being away in the hills. I mean I usually just lie down and sleep in a waterproof bag, although there is no chance the GF will buy into that. Maybe I should take a look at some tarps.
