I've (badly) stored a wax jacket in my loft. It was covered in stinky mould when I uncovered it. 😐

It was only worn a few times since new. I've brushed it but it's absolutely humming.

I can't fire it on a 30 degree wash, is there any way back for it?

but it’s absolutely humming.

isn't that standard for wax jackets?

Wind rain and sun. Hang it outside for a few weeks and let nature fettle it.

I had this recently with some Carradice gear left damp in the garage. Spot treat the mould with hot water and a sponge. Dry it so it’s proper house-dry / bone dry. Then sunlight (as far as is possible in Feb). Sunlight is the magic ingredient. Then finished with some Fjallraven Greenland wax. The Barbour stuff isn’t any better and a)stinks b) is messy.

sunlight

Yeah, I remember that. Being as I am from the West of Scotland I understand our annual quota is scheduled for some time in late June for two days.

Till then it's honky time. I'll try to air as much as I can.

Cheers for the Fllllaaarjaaaven tip will try instead of the Barbour wax. In June.

Just dug out a couple of my wax jackets from my parents garage, a Barbour and a cheapo from local farm suppliers, both severely covered in mould… Obviously wrong time of year to let sunlight do it’s thing… Any other suggestions? Not particularly fussed in getting them pristine as they’re worn for outdoor work.
