Are they still open for taking a piss and grabbing a coffee? I know Costa has closed their stores but they don't mention the drive-thru versions. Can probably survive on a Costa Express if it comes down to it.

Should still be fairly functional toilets and and fuel will be open as will the shops (such as m&s or Waitrose) even if the cafes are shut and most will have a Costa or Starbucks machine  in the filling station if there’s nothing else being served

Doing a journey that requires a motorway service stop doesn't sound like a great plan at the moment

Lots of facilities still open for essential travellers such as deliveries.

Thanks for the info.

Nickjb - thank you also. I was actually going to drive to Heathrow and back just to admire at the scenery from the M1 but you've convinced me to stay at home.

Yeah, I'm sure it's essential, but do you really need a service stop in a public place with people from and heading cross country? Maybe take a drink with you, pee in a hedge if you have to go.

He could be delivering ventilators across the country for all anyone knows.

Anyway, services will be open - the roads are 90% HGV drivers/delivery drivers/emergency services workers now and they all need somewhere to piss and refill.

Not hard to go into and out of a services and touch nothing but your own appendage (and the taps, just before washing your hands) too.

We went to Cornwall a week before lockdown and cut our trip short the day after. We had to stop at services on the way home and the loos were open and a small takeaway cafe

You’re not going to catch cv19 off your own old man so skip the taps and job done. 😉

Tebay Northbound was open today. Takeaway Coffee and Sandwiches only. The Deli/Butchers/Farm Shop was open too. We travelled M5, M6 and M74, services appeared open.

Key workers

I think the OP knows about that thread, having posted in it and identified as an airline pilot now flying freight. Not a job suitable for WFH.

Sitting in your front room making "NEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW" noises, or playing Microsoft flight simulator, probably doesn't count.

You should be able to WFH as a pilot - just use telemetry to your PC, like they do with drones - sorted.

With some really long bits of string I reckon I can still move the controls from home.

For a while Fleet services on the M3 was the only place in the local area still selling paracetamol.

Apparently the motor way services are classed as part of the strategic road network so are still open for essential service. Browsing for a new phone case from the dodgy concession near the door may not fall under this essential service definition.
