So who`s insurance pays, and can you claim for whiplash, etc.

Reason being driving back along the M56 on Thursday night, 2 X 5 vehicle shunts on the other side of the barrier, quite a few of the cars seemed to be damaged and non driveable.

car behind pays for the car infronts damages usually ....hence why you want to leave a nice gap so if your shunted from the rear you dont shunt the car infront !

depends on so many things but the person who caused the crash is responsible[their insurance] for all injuries or knock for knock if joint liability ie driving too close /fast etc.

Strangely enough that bit has chevrons pained on it and signs saying keep 2 chevrons apart.

Doesn't always happen though - my brother once went into the back of someone but wasn't found liable as the driver in front had swerved into his lane.

where as my uncle had parked his car up with the hazzards on to attend to another accident on a country road with good visability on a straight road - a car piled into the back of him at 60 and piled him into another parked car also helping the car that had gone off the road and was upsides down

he was found liable for the car infront ... was parked too close the court ruled.... the good samaritan and all that !

Car that drove into the back of me on the A14 was deemed liable for all damage, but then I was coming to a stop at the back of queued traffic. Must have added up to a rather large claim - 2 newish cars written off (rental car I was in had less than 500 miles on the clock), jeep that I was pushed into wasn't driveable afterwards, not sure what full extent of damage was, but if you manage to make a dint in one of those square jeeps you've done well! Was a temp at the time so had to make a claim for loss of earnings, and getting a last minute train ticket back to my parents house.
