Head says zoom, Heart says ipad....
What do your kidneys say?
"In return for long battery life, you have to put up with a lot of weight. At 730g, the Xoom is a heavy tablet: certainly not a one-hander. And compare this to the equivalent iPad 2, which is barely over 600g.The real elephant in the room, however, is price. The Xoom is expensive, costing exactly the same as a 32GB iPad 2. OK, so it has a higher screen resolution, a couple of output ports and a card slot that may or may not work one day, so what? The Xoom can’t kill iPads without a killer price.
VerdictDespite the weight, despite the price, despite everything, the Motorola Xoom has the power to move me. It feels so solid and performs so reliably that I increasingly find myself using it in preference to my iPad 2 whenever Apple compatibility is not an issue. The problem is that it’s an intellectual love affair. While I adore my iPad, I admire and respect my Xoom. Should I seek help?"

I'm not convinced by any of the Android tablets yet. Personally I'm waiting for a nice high-res tablet (hopefully iPad 3)
certainly not a one-hander
MTFU. It's far from heavy! Happily held in one hand here.

Which makes the iPad expensive too, surely?
Lenovo are issuing something along those lines I heard earlier today. Not sure if it's true though.
Advent Vega is a bargain at £200 and really good to use. I was playing with one earlier and thought it was stunning. Might get one when they are secondhand on the bay.

But the writers point was

Does you bum say "yes" to a dry Steve Jobs?
Hate Apple (particuarly Macs) with a passion, but given the choice would get an iPad - Android's still playing catch-up when it comes to big(ish) screen apps.
I'm no Apple fun but until the other tablet get alot cheaper why wouldn't you buy an ipad?

Hmmm...
"And here's a major problem: there's no Android Market support, so no Adobe Reader or any other additional apps. The Vega comes with a decent set of media playback and personal information management tools, and both a browser and email, but that's it.So, no Skype to make use of that nice webcam, then. If you plan to put anything else on it, you're stuffed unless you're a hacker. Closing the tablet to app downloads is unforgiveable - hence my frustration and desire to chuck the Vega away in disgust."

Yeah sounds great!
Took me 5 mins to put market on one this morning and looks like the newer firmware comes with it anyway. Im surprised that review from March didnt mention it.
I looked at iPads and android (not the zoom though) tablets and went with the iPad 2. Vastly more apps (and no built in malware/viruses) was a big deal to me. I also couldn't get round the feeling that if I bought an android tablet I'd secretly wished I'd gone for the iPad.

Thing is the zoom is also 32 gb.... so pitched at the same price bracket.
I like the idea that I can plug in my garmin 800 or mp3 player with a usb or download my photos direct from card onto the zoom. From what I've heard you you need extra attachments at extra £££'s for the equivalent apple connectors.
I'll see if I can get a demo on an advent - hadn't heard of it before
I had a play with both at the gadget show - I (and the wife) preferred the ipad, but it seems a bit of a pita for connectivity with other gadgets I have.
Xoom will also soon have the ability to add memory via SD card.
Samsung 7", ?", 10"?
IMO the iPads are easily better, so much easier to use than the Android tabs, and a much bigger array of apps from the App Store. They are a bit dodgy to hold when taking pictures, but still, you pay for what you get, style and quality. 🙂

True, all of £20 for the Camera Kit card reader. Or you just load Airsharing or similar and copy stuff via wifi. The card reader works well, I've got one from Zoomit that came out long before the Apple reader and it's been handy with the iPhone. What you have to pay close attention to is the card format; I think most of the tablets use SD Micro, but the card reader takes full size SDHC, so you can copy pics across from a DSLR or Compact. I did that on holiday last year, copying several pics of ravens I took with the Nikon onto the phone, cropping slightly and squaring up before posting up to Facebook and Flickr.
